Ok, so when Jada Pinkett Smith is fronting a metal band, one thought comes to mind...the world has gone mad! The first time I heard of Wicked Wisdom was when they were performing on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. I couldn't stop staring at the lead singer who bared a striking resemblance to Jada Pinkett and lo and behold, it was the lady herself. There's no denying Pinkett's voice is good (if anything, she's more impressive live) and the band seems to work on stage. However, the cd needs a bit of improvement. You can't shake the feeling that Pinkett Smith is still a bit nervous about the whole thing, and I think the group's second effort will not only improve her confidence, but their sound as well. Good effort though!

There's no doubting that this could be a very good album. The sheer power of the metal riffs after a searing gothic build up is enough to make any metal fans spine tingle! However......... just as you're getting excited, Jada enters..... Talented actress yes, vocalist, nearly! I'm not saying this becasue she has something to prove to the metal scene or becaise she is more famous than her band but her voice does tend to spoil the record. Don't get me wrong, the girl can sing, but it's just not right for this album! It sounds like a seperate album has been placed over the top! Her timing is all wrong and it sounds out of place. I really wanted to like this album but simply struggled whilst Pinkett-Smith was singing, the bits inbetween are ace! This album would be better if someone like Christina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil was singing. Sorry Jada but this doesnt quite cut it but i await your second offering with much anticipation! Sort the timing and pitch out and all will be forgiven!

HASH(0x8714aee8) out of 5 stars Stole the show away from Sevendust 26 Mar. 2006
By Brian T. Kline - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I recently saw these guys open up for Sevendust in Madison, WI and they absolutely stole the show. There were four opening bands, three of which were completely forgetable. At the time I knew nothing about them. To me they were just another opening band I had to sit through. It wasn't until the next day I found out who the singer is. I don't care if she is Will Smith's wife, they've been given nothing except a foot in the door. They're having to work their way up the ranks just like every other band out there. You might have an argument if she was no good, but she is. She can sing as well as any other metal singer, and she knows how to perform on stage like not many can. And to dismiss this band because of their association to Smith is to take a lot of credit away from the other musicians, who are nothing short of amazing. The guitarist as just as good as Slipknot's. And the drummer definitely knows his rhythms. Wicked Wisom absolutely stole the show from Sevendust who was completely flat and showing their age and total lack of hunger. Give them a shot and I think you'll really like them.

HASH(0x877c18c4) out of 5 stars Inconsistent but well done. 20 Mar. 2006
By A. McCoy - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I think they've done a very good job considering they're new. Although they seem to know which direction they want to go, I recognized the sounds of other bands in them. For example, the song titled 'Don't Hate Me', reminds me of Evanessence's 'Wake Me Up'. I did like the second song, 'Something Inside of Me' because Jada sounds like she really means what she's saying...I myself feel that way about psychopath's preying on young girls. Some of the songs sound a bit contrived but I think if they stay true to who they are they'll do fine. I love the music in 'Forgiven' 'cause it shows they have a sound of their own. I tink they are awesome and deserve some credit.

HASH(0x874b8cc0) out of 5 stars Good Job! 13 July 2006
By MusicWhore - Published on Amazon.com

I think that everyone else who rated this album were extremely harsh and a little rude. Give her a chance. She has potential and it's awesome that she's into this genre of music. She breaks the stereotypes and I think that in itself is a very bold and brave move on her part. I think it sounded great regardless of how "weak" or whatever everyone says her vocals are. Lots of people have first cds that aren't so great, but that doesn't mean there's not room for improvement. Apparently they were good enough for a record label to sign them! Rock on Jada!!!!

HASH(0x872d04ec) out of 5 stars Female fronted rap-metal done properly 2 Sept. 2006
By Metal_Head - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Firstly I can't think of any other metal bands fronted by a black woman so kudos for that. I may be wrong who know's. People are just dissing it coz it's big willies wife. You don't know what she's into she might have the biggest metal cd collection in the world and she could afford it too. This is for fans of otep, early kittie, tura satana & my ruin. If eighteen visions were fronted by a woman they'd sound similar to WW. Her vocals are great theres some brilliant druming & guitar work on here. If you're a fan of any of the above bands. Ignore peoples jealous remarks & check this out.

HASH(0x8711fe58) out of 5 stars 4 * for the musicians, 2 * for jada = avg band 24 Feb. 2006
By Linda Trise - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I heard "something inside of me" on the radio a couple of weeks ago and decided at that time to purchase the cd when it was released. I really enjoyed the band throughout the cd, unfortunately, jada's vocals are weak in my opinion. It was a good attempt and I can tell she may have the rage and angst required to perform this style of music, but she doesn't have any vocal range.

I do want to mention that I really enjoy track #4, I can live with the vocals for this one.
