Yes, it looks very ordinary BUT it is precision engineering and that never comes cheap. It is only when you inspect it closely that you start to realise just how well made it is.
The choice of materials is strictly from the 'form follows function' school. If you were a vandal, you could rub this pen against a flashy Pelikan, Duofold, Namiki, Sailor, Sheaffer etc and this pen would have no marks whatsoever but the owner of the other pen would scream in fear. It is a very tough, precision tool, not a piece of jewellery. If you want glitz, look elsewhere. If you want utter reliability and superb performance, this pen should be on your short list.
In car terms, it is a Unimog. It does the job better than most of its rivals but it looks purely functional. None of the flashy 4x4s can go where a Unimog can.
