Why I left you by Colette Davison is the first book from this author I have read and I absolutely adored it. The book begins with old flames Brett and Jamie bumping into each other when Jamie was looking for a flat share. For both guys, this opened wounds from their past that neither one of them was ready to face but both of them couldn’t walk away again either.
I adored how Jamie’s character was portrayed in this book. What Jamie has suffered since the break-down of his relationship is something that people go through daily and it is really hard to write in the correct manner but Colette Davison managed to do this without flaw.
Brett’s character is the complete opposite of Jamie’s. Brett is very easy going and enjoying life but not fulfilling his life-long dreams until Jamie reminds him of his dreams. The difference between how the two characters were written is huge and it makes the book so much more enjoyable.
Together as a couple I enjoyed reading about Brett and Jamie’s relationship, how they worked together and helped build each other up to fulfil their lives – Jamie to finish his year at university and Brett to become a chef.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the dynamic of this book, Brett and Jamie’s relationship was swoon-worthy, and they were just the cutest. I love how Colette has written about the struggles of mental health which many people suffer from and shown that it doesn’t have to completely ruin your life but it will if you allow it; like Jamie was at the beginning of the book. I have rated this book with a five-star rating as I thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend it to anyone.
Highly recommend this book!
We meet Brett four years after he and Jamie his high school sweetheart made love for the first time. That night that changed both their lives forever and not in a good way. Brett has not let anyone into his heart since that fateful day. Satisfying his needs with one-night stands, that left him cold.
Then Brett comes face to face with Jamie and his whole world is turned upside down.
Jamie tried to kill himself four years ago and is struggling to keep his head above water. He suffers deep depression which threatens to go out of control once more when he comes face to face with Brett.
Both initially resent each other, and we watch as they try to deal with their unravelling emotions, as well as the strong attraction they still have for one another. Brett is frightened to ask Jamie about that night four years ago, he does not want to spoil their budding relationship. And Jamie can not bring himself to talk about it and goes within himself.
They must learn to trust themselves and trust their new bond if things can continue between them.
I Really liked the Authors description of the characters Emotions, I felt the hurt, pain, hope and love oozing off the page. The story is nicely paced, and you are that invested in the characters futures that you do not want to put the book down.
