Format: Audio CD
This album represents Ornette Coleman during the peak of his innovative late-fifties / early-sixties period. For some reason it was only released in Japan originally and to date has only been available here as an import. The tunes here are drawn from the recording sessions which resulted in the "Change of the Century" and "This is Our Music" albums. The personnel includes Coleman himself on alto, Don Cherry on trumpet, the peerless Charlie Haden on bass and Billy Higgins/Rd Blackwell on drums. As usual with Coleman the music is free flowing and energetic and the musicians get lots of space to stretch out and express themselves but the tunes never feel unstructured or loose. This is revolutionary stuff (or was at the time) but it isn't free jazz with everyone doing their own thing over an assumed beat, it is more logical than that. The collective and individual playing is outstanding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful music but a song missing... 21 Feb. 2010
By David Gary Roberts - Published on Amazon.com

Why is "Blues Connotation" on this mp3 album (s.b.on "This Is Our Music") instead of "P.S. Unless One Has"? This must be a mistake as the song titles no longer form the statement intended by Ornette (see review by "Grigory's Girl").
