'His nearly inaudible cry rang out: "Help!"'
Anyone up for a challenge? Improbably, Dalkey has its Swiss Literature Series just as Seagull has its Swiss list, largesse unprecedented. (The irony is muted.) Impenetrable, but at least a little livelier than other German-language books from Dalkey, Peirene and Seagull I've looked into lately (what is it with German language writers?); funny, too, somewhat - though deuced hard work. The author's a one-time enfant terrible, the back blurb tells us; is that altogether a good thing to be?
