Product description

Review

Blistering humour, mortal danger & immortal heart, epically clever. Loved it. (Kiran Millwood Hargrave, author of Girl of Ink & Stars)

Evans' debut novel is a breathless roller-coaster ride ... Reminiscent of
Rick Riordan with a hint of Neil Gaiman's Stardust ... fans of Percy Jackson will devour this and hope that the gods send a sequel. (Kirkus)

[A] relentlessly witty, fast-paced middle grade adventure ... This book is a
page-turner littered with belly laughs that any adult will zip through. (M.G. Leonard, author of Beetle Boy)

This book is packed full of classical gods brought bang up to date with
wonderfully ironic humour. (The Guardian) - --- --This text refers to an alternate kindle_edition edition.

Still unsure how it happened, Maz Evans is apparently the author of the bestselling WHO LET THE GODS OUT?, VI SPY and SCARLETT FIFE series, which have collectively sold over half a million copies to 22 countries worldwide. They have received over 30 award nominations, including the Carnegie Medal, Branford Boase, Books Are My Bag, Waterstone’s Children’s Book of the Year, Indie Children’s Book of the Year and CrimeFest Best Children’s Book.

She narrates the audiobooks for the series and her acclaimed live events have featured at Hay, Imagine, Edinburgh, Bath, Cheltenham, Bestival, Wilderness, CarFest and countless literary festivals and primary schools around the UK.

As an author, she has won the hearts of thousands of children. As a nuclear physicist, she has frankly been completely rubbish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Primary 6 class reviews. Belfast
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 21 January 2018
Recently our class just finished WLTGO as our class novel and we absolutely loved it. We have already taken a vote and the children overwhelming voted for Simply the Quest as our next novel. The children wanted Maz Evans to know how much they enjoyed the novel, which she will hopefully read. As a teacher, thank you Maz for writing a wonderful story filled with joy, sadness, humour and so much more. You helped to bring our closer together through your storytelling, hopefully further sparking that love of reading that will last a lifetime. Keep up the great work!

Take it away class:
This book is amazing! It is full of funny chapters and characters. This book is about a boy named Elliot and his mother who is unwell. He meets the constellation Virgo and accidentally lets out a death daemon. He gets help from the Gods and Virgo and they go on an adventure to put him back. It is full of ridiculous and crazy things and trust me, right after you read the first one you will love the second and to me it's even better than the first. I really recommend this book to Primary 5, 6 and 7 children who love adventure and fun but I really think anyone could enjoy it. Aqeelah

I really enjoyed WLTGO and think others will too. Very funny and I believe it deserves more than 5 stars. I loved all of the characters and thought over all it was amazing. and really moved me. I loved reading it in class.
Anna

I really life this book because it is very hard for me to find a book that I really like. Mao's book is very funny and I love the names of all the characters and how creative Mao's writing is. I think everyone in my class likes this book. When my teacher reads it, he puts on voices for each character so that it comes to life. My favourite character has to be Hermes because he says BOSH and MEGABOSH. This book is MEGABOSH!
Shravya

I really loved this book and my favourite character was Hermes. The book was mega bosh! It was one of my favourite books. My teacher read it to my class making funny voices. I can't wait to read Simply the Quest and Beyond the Odyssey.
Jack

I loved this book. My teacher read it and I quickly fell in love with the characters. My favourite characters have to be Hermes and Virgo. My favourite chapter was in Buckingham Palace. I'm currently reading Simply the Quest!
Seanan

I absolutely love this book. It's so funny and fascinating. My favourite character is Hermes because he always says 'BOSH' and it's just so funny. This book is so good that I could read it a million times. I totally recommend you buy this book.
Hannah

I loved this book so much. I couldn't put it down! I highly recommend this book to 8-14 year olds. It has a great message because Elliot's mum has dementia so there is a message to help children who have a relative who has/had dementia. Overall this book was amazing. My favourite character was the Queen and Hermes. This is a Mega Bosh book!
Sean

I loved your book and it was so funny. I loved when the intensity got so high. I loved Thanatos but my favourite character was Hermes. I loved when Hermes said BOSH. I thought it was so funny. I can't wait to start reading STQ and I am going to try and finish it by the time the new book comes out. Thanks for reading my review of WLTGO.
James

I really enjoyed this book. My teacher's voices were so funny. My favourite character was Hermes and this book is Mega Bosh!
Padraic

My favourite person was Hermes. He was always funny. If you like action and funny books then WLTGO is just for you. It is for all ages! A special thank you to Maz Evans for crafting such an interesting book. If you read it then I'm sure you will feel the same way.
Grace

WLTGO is funny, heartfelt and packed with adventure and action. It has Greek Gods, weird Gods and Daemons. It's very exciting. My favourite characters are Elliot, The Queen and Virgo. My teacher makes it funnier with his impressions of the characters. I can't wait for him to read Simply the Quest.
Owen

I enjoyed this book because it told you a lot about Greek mythology and it was both funny and adventurous. My favourite character in the book by far is Hermes. He is so hilarious, especially when he will say Bosh. I definitely recommend this book for 8-11 year olds.
Aedin

I really enjoyed the book. It is a very interesting book for children who love adventures. I love the way the Queen turns into something I wasn't expecting. I won't spoil the surprise. I'm sad I finished the book but can't wait to read STQ. I love when Hermes says BOSH! I'm so excited to read Beyond the Odyssey as these stories take me to the best world.
Meadoe

I would give it millions more stars but unfortunately there is only 5. It was very funny. Virgo was very funny. I loved the book so much. I liked the way Elliot called Patricia Porshley Plum, Mrs Horse's Bum! I recommend STQ and BTO. My favourite character was Aphrodite as she was funny too. We did a thing in class where we pretended to be the characters. I really loved this book. Thanks for reading.
Lila

I absolutely love WLTGO. It was a hilarious but heart warming story. My favourite characters were Hermes and Zeus. The reason I chose them is because they are both very funny. WLTGO is always an action packed adventurous story.
Emily

I loved everything about it this book. I liked the humour characters, adventure and the Greek Gods like Zeus, Hermes, Athena, Virgo, Thanatos and Elliot. I would (will) absolutely love the new books and hopefully they will be as good as WLTGO. I will love STQ, BTO and...?
Joe

I loved the book. It's funny but has a very truthful message. The characters were very good and they all had lots of humour. What I would like for all the books is to have more of Mrs Horses Bum. I am so glad there are another few books on the way. BOSH!
Megan

WLTGO is my favourite book. I love all the characters especially Mrs Horse's Bum, Virgo, Zeus and (bosh) Hermes. I loved when Elliot told Boyle to go easy on the mince pies. I loved Hermes at the end. I loved Thanatos, his brother and all the tricks that they played. The scene with Hypnos's guard was so funny. Amazon need 20 stars to rate this book! It is my favourite book for now but STQ will probably be my favourite soon! BOSH!
James

In WLTGO my favourite character is probably the Queen or Hermes. I give this book a megaBOSH! I would also give this book a million amazon stars! My favourite part was at Buckingham Palace with the Queen. I can't wait to read the 2nd, 3rd and hopefully a 4th!
Sephora

This book is brilliant and I would recommend it to any book or Greek mythology lovers. This book is MegaBOSH! My favourite character is Hermes as he is so funny and if you read this book then I am sure you will love him too. So for all those people who love Greek mythology, suspicion and having a laugh then this book is for you!
Mae

I love all the suspense, comedy and the part with the middle-aged monarch Queen Elizabeth II...Snordlesnot! Maz, please don't stop making hilarious books and make more than 4 for this series. The only reason why I am giving this book 4 1/2 stars is because there are only 3 books, even though this book is ULTRA UBER BOSH!
Odhran

A hilarious book with lots of twists and amazing description. I would recommend this book to 7-14 year olds. My favourite characters were Sisiphus and Hermes but the best by far was Peagasus. This is the best book I have read in years. If you are reading this review and you are still not convinced to order this book then you better! :)
Maya

I loved this book so much because Virgo and Hermes are so funny. I also like Mrs Horse's Bum. There is so much humour and excitement in this book. I can't wait to read STQ and BTO. MEGA BOSH!
Conor Fl

I really loved the book. I love all the characters. My favourite character is Hermes. I love that he will always say 'bosh'. It was really funny. It really taught me about the names of Greek Gods. My favourite made up word was Snortlesnot!
Athirah

I loved WLTGO. It's so funny especially the Buckingham Palace part. There is plenty of humour. I am always filled with shock when this and that happened. The comedy was perfect. In my opinion, Hermes is the best.
Dara

Maz Evans, I really liked WLTGO but there were definitely weird bits, like the part at Buckingham Palace! I did really like it though. I liked the part in Thanatos's cave.
Emmet

I really enjoyed the book because there are so many funny and action packed bits. This book is so hilarious. I burst out laughing on every page. My favourite chapter was when they went to see the Queen but I shall say no more! Last but not least, my favourite person in the book is Hermes because he always says Bosh!
Thomas

WLTGO is my favourite book I have ever read because it's hilarious, action packed and my favourite character is Hermes because he will always say Bosh! I recommend Simply the Quest.
Conor Fr

WLTGO is the funniest book I have ever read. It is action packed, funny and sometimes even sad. This book is wonderfully written and is the perfect book for children like me. It is perfect if you're looking for a good book.
