Format: Paperback
Whiteout: Melt is a paperback collection of all four issues of the 1999 comic mini series which was a sequel to Whiteout: The Definitive Edition: v. 1. The story of Carrie Stetko, US Marshal at a research station in Antarctica, investigating a murder there.

Whiteout: Melt, is an all new story. Carrie once again features, but it's basically an all new case for her with the only tie in to the original being that it features the same character and takes place on the same continent. The cold, windy and forbidding place that is Antarctica.

This edition differs from earlier editions in that the art has been remastered, and it has a new afterword from the writer.

Since there's precious little if any tie in with Whiteout, those who haven't read that would probably be able to get into this quite easily. But you're better off starting with Whiteout first, just to get better introduced to Carrie as a character.

This volume runs for one hundred and ten pages, and is divided into four chapters. The artwork is in black and white.

It features strong language and adult moments, so is really for mature readers only.

It starts with a few bits of interesting history about the continent, from the first expeditions to the present day. You may learn something from this.

Then the story sees a Russian base attacked and destroyed by hooded men. Carrie, vacationing far away and in the warm, is forced to go back and look into what has happened.

She finds the base had secrets. And has to team up with someone she doesn't know in order to track the villains down. But a bigger danger awaits everyone.

Really good story, great atmosphere set in Antarctic. Different style of story from first volume but great. Some surprises in the plot. Recommend his other work Gotham Central.
