While the story portrays two couples and delivers two happily ever afters, Selina and Eric are the main focus. We see far more of their internal conflicts play out. The relationship between Blair and Dom happens largely in the background. They are already a couple when the book starts and Blair’s epiphany that achieves their HEA happens off-screen.
The only negative character traits Selina and Eric seem to possess are (1) a stubborn resistance to dating each other for “reasons” and (2) a maddening inability/unwillingness to communicate on the subject. Otherwise, they are practically perfect in every way. Selina is smart, funny, competent at her job, looks good brunette or blonde, and rocks every custom-fitted outfit she wears. Eric is smart, hot, rich, funny, and he gets to be a knight in shining armor for Blair (his friend) in tales from the past and Prince Charming for Selina (his crush) in the present.
I felt the strongest portion of the story was the wine party sequence. The scene was painted so well that I felt I was there. The sensory detail really worked for me. I also really enjoyed the Broadway thematic elements, including references to South Pacific, Oklahoma, The King & I, and Cinderella. I want to attend a party like that in the real world.
The romance is sweet and not particularly steamy. The sex scenes are ridiculously short. I mean, wow, these people orgasm fast even by romance novel standards. They were so quick that I found them (unintentionally) comical and would rather have just had those scenes fade to black.
A surprising number of typos were present given the polished formatting of the ebook. The most glaring: the heroine’s name is alternately spelled “Selina” or “Selena” throughout the book, with both versions even appearing in the same paragraph. There are also a few issues with consistency of placement/timing in which events are duplicated or seem to occur slightly out of sequence.
The story started strong, but lagged for me in the third quarter. Had the third quarter been cut down and the editing issues fixed, I think this would have been a 4- or 5-star novella.
There were 4 errors that I noted, none of which require a major rewrite/update, just a bit of a 'niggle' on my end.
