3.0 out of 5 stars Like most relationships it's fun, but has issues. 3 July 2014

This is a quick, light read. The characters are just so gosh-darn likeable I couldn’t help but want them to end up together. There aren’t really any villains to be found, unless you count hives and paparazzi. Despite several issues (detailed below), I found this to be an enjoyable book.

While the story portrays two couples and delivers two happily ever afters, Selina and Eric are the main focus. We see far more of their internal conflicts play out. The relationship between Blair and Dom happens largely in the background. They are already a couple when the book starts and Blair’s epiphany that achieves their HEA happens off-screen.

The only negative character traits Selina and Eric seem to possess are (1) a stubborn resistance to dating each other for “reasons” and (2) a maddening inability/unwillingness to communicate on the subject. Otherwise, they are practically perfect in every way. Selina is smart, funny, competent at her job, looks good brunette or blonde, and rocks every custom-fitted outfit she wears. Eric is smart, hot, rich, funny, and he gets to be a knight in shining armor for Blair (his friend) in tales from the past and Prince Charming for Selina (his crush) in the present.

I felt the strongest portion of the story was the wine party sequence. The scene was painted so well that I felt I was there. The sensory detail really worked for me. I also really enjoyed the Broadway thematic elements, including references to South Pacific, Oklahoma, The King & I, and Cinderella. I want to attend a party like that in the real world.

The romance is sweet and not particularly steamy. The sex scenes are ridiculously short. I mean, wow, these people orgasm fast even by romance novel standards. They were so quick that I found them (unintentionally) comical and would rather have just had those scenes fade to black.

A surprising number of typos were present given the polished formatting of the ebook. The most glaring: the heroine’s name is alternately spelled “Selina” or “Selena” throughout the book, with both versions even appearing in the same paragraph. There are also a few issues with consistency of placement/timing in which events are duplicated or seem to occur slightly out of sequence.

The story started strong, but lagged for me in the third quarter. Had the third quarter been cut down and the editing issues fixed, I think this would have been a 4- or 5-star novella.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great read... Really enjoyed it 8 Jan. 2014

This book was my first from Connie Cox... I have to say That I did enjoy it and found myself not wanting to put it down. Selena and Eric have tons of Romantic tension which has you wanting to tell them to get over it and be together. Thankfully we have Blair who wants to see her friends happy with each other. Selena is a very loyal and hard working assistant to Blair even working as her body double for fittings, and believes like most of the world does that Eric and Selena are in a relationship. When she find out that Eric and Blair are not together that changes her whole view on Eric's availability. I very much enjoyed this book found it interesting, the characters where well rounded and meshed well together, and it didn't feel rushed and ended they way it should. It was an easy read with a fun feel especially with the dialogue between the characters. Will be reading more of Connie Cox in the future that is for sure.

I received a copy of this book in return for my honest review.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book!! 5 Jan. 2014

This is the first book that I have read by this author, and I really enjoyed it. Selina works as an assistant to Blair who is a rock superstar. Blair's best friend is Eric who is a rich wine maker. Blair knows that Selina and Eric would make a great couple but they won't make a move towards a relationship. Blair breaks out in hives and convinces Selina to pose as her since they look alike. Blair thinks that this will throw Selina and Eric together and help her with her career while she is healing from the hives. I loved this book and the ending. I would love to read another book with these characters in it.

A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
5.0 out of 5 stars Worth reading 15 Jan. 2014

I really enjoyed this romance novel featuring two couples, Selina and Eric, and Blair and Dominic. Selina pretends to be Blair, and spends time with Eric that way, developing their romance. Certain parts of the story had me laughing and smiling (no spoilers), and I consider that to be an important part of a great read. Overall, I consider it to be a worthwhile read. The story is very in-depth for one couple, but not as in depth for the second couple, which is a bit disappointing. However, this novel is the first book I've read from the author, and as I enjoyed it, I'm definitely going to continue to patronize the author. *I would like to add I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author/publisher for an honest review.*
4.0 out of 5 stars Great story. 13 Jan. 2014

This is the first book i've read by Connie Cox. I enjoyed it a lot. Selena and Eric are 'the seconds' to Blair, a musician; Selena is her assistant and body-double, and Eric her long-toime friend and companion. Blair's bodyguard Dom is a very interesting character as well, and his importance to the whole story comes out about halfway thru. Watching Eric and Selena figure out what they mean to each other, and watching them overcome their past lives is fun, if not all that original, unfortunately -- the only real drawback to the story.

There were 4 errors that I noted, none of which require a major rewrite/update, just a bit of a 'niggle' on my end.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.
