I bought this for my train commute, as the metal thermos I tried originally always made my tea taste vile. Porcelain is miles better for this, so that aspect is great. It feels sturdy and I've never worried about breaking it. The rubber drink-through lid isn't ideal for me, as it means you can't keep it in your bag until you're ready to drink, plus the rubber does affect the taste a little.

Altogether though it's improved my commuting life, and coffee shops are happy to fill it up instead of a paper cup, meaning a tiny amount less waste in the world.

Originally I purchased a similar item at Whittakers in Bolton Lancashire in their sale for only £5 and which I managed to break (the downside of ceramic). Their version also had a silicone sleeve to prevent burns. I replaced it with this and it is not bad at all although instead of a sleeve, it has a double-walled construction. It is far better than the metal variety and the silicone lid is much more pleasant to drink from than a hard (sometimes) drippy plastic lid. My coffee stays warm but not too warm to drink whilst travelling to work. They are a great idea but be careful not to drop it!

I like the ceramic cup although I haven't had it very long and the bottom has chipped. I can't recall knocking it. I like the look of it but think I prefer my stainless steel one on reflection

HASH(0x99860150) out of 5 stars Travel well ! 12 Sept. 2011

I like this cup a lot, not only because it is double-walled, but also because it is styled in a similar fashion to a disposable cup (it's kind cute). I've had a few porcelain travel cups before, but this one has the best fitting lid (no leaks).
My only complaint (which is mostly aesthetic), is the exterior finish on the cup. It is essentially polished, but it is shiny, and in other words less true to the paper cup model. I know it sounds silly. Moreso, if you carry this cup on your way to work (public transit, etc) and your hand naturally perspires from the slight warmth of the coffee, are walking in the rain (I live in Portland), or somehow manage to spill coffee on your hand, the cup becomes a little slick and will become slightly slippery. My two cents: Skip the outside polish on the cup so that it has a natural grip. It would then inadvertently bear a closer resemblance to a paper cup, and therefore be much cuter. That might make the outside more stain-prone, but I think that it would only stain if you left it go unwashed for a prolonged period of time. That is, if you got something on it in the first place. I'm all for an outside enamel-free porcelain cup, they feel great (Bodum has made some of these and they're just awesome). Anyway, just my opinion. In short, it's the best "real" travel cup I've ever had, I'd buy it again in the future.

Last note: I haven't taken the time to measure the actual volume of the cup, but I would say it is closer to a 16 ounce cup than a 12. Maybe not 16, but least 14 ounces if not 16. Definitely not a 12 ounce cup, that's for sure (it's a good thing though, it means more coffee, but not too much that it would go cold).

HASH(0x993106b4) out of 5 stars Tastes like a Chinese steel belted radial. Yum 7 April 2012

Lid stinks with strong rubber smell. Remember, every time you drink, your nose is close or touching the lid. It overpowers the taste in your mouth. If that's silicone, I'm porky pig. Either the manufacturer didn't bother to test their product, or don't care.

I used to promote these to friends and family.....raving about them!...still think they are a marvel in design with superb quality.....I own (3) of them and two out of three of the tops leak SLIGHTLY as the coffee sloshes around while driving....the other one however performs admirably with zero leakage....freaky really--how the first one works so amazing (still does) and the next two don't......have to re-use the one good top on all three cups.....also, still think they need more designs from contemporary graphic artists.

HASH(0x98e9824c) out of 5 stars The rubber plug leaks after a few washes 24 Mar. 2015

The mug is well built, but the rubber plugs in the bottom leak after a few washes, allowing water to get into the inner cavity. So after washing in the dishwasher, you have to rinse out the cavity, each time.

The silicone cap smells like rubber really strong. When you take a sip that's all you smell. It was strong enough that I could not use it. I washed it at least 3 times and it still smelled like rubber really bad.
