Product Description

In the hands of lesser men, the self-titled White Rabbit's lounge style and retro dance could have resulted in a painful crop of knowingly naff novelty tunes. Thankfully John Sherwood and Crispin Dior take their tributes to yesteryear a little more seriously than most. Matching their sly humour with an astute musical savvy they guarantee their debut album's over-blown blaxploitation funk ("The London Rock Shop", "Bullshit"), disco house ("Too Hot To Trot", "Transistor Queen") and bongo laden lounge ("Paisley Plane") are as irrefutably infectious as they are fun. Having a sinister side also helps the pair avoid the novelty bin and tone down their lavish party persona. Their cover of Squeeze's "Take Me I'm Yours" for one, with sultry vocals from Jane Birkin who added her seductive charms to Serge Gainsbourg's "Je T'Aime", is an incredibly dark affair, with all the eerie atmospherics of a 1960s spy movie. Even when the pair do push their kitsch cool to the limits though, drafting in MC Tiffy Tiff--a lady who normally does voice-overs for porn films--to moan and groan the virtues of rubbing "sweet sexy cream" into her skin over the gyrating groove of "Sexy Cream", it's done with such understated style that it's as genuinely filthy as it is hysterical. --Dan Gennoe

i was disappointed because i thought i had bought something else from a different band but was pleasantly surprised after listening. I really liked the first song and the intro is funny. as a whole though its too disco-ish dj for me. not bad though
