Product description

Review

• Stunning. A ‘Chinatown’ for the 21st century’ – Charles Cumming, NY Times bestselling author of THE TRINITY SIX

• ‘City of Sins starts with a tsunami and ends with a hurricane, and nothing in between slows it down. A smart, scary, and relentless storm overtaking a city held hostage by greed and disaster." – Andrew Gross, NYTimes bestselling author

• Daniel Blake makes New Orleans the setting for a story that's as hot, steamy and shot through with voodoo madness as the city itself. Highly recommended!" – Tom Cain, author of THE ACCIDENT MAN and DICTATOR

I was unable to put this down. From the first pages the pace is fast, and the body count mounts. Agent Patrese is called in to solve the crimes. One killer or two? There are some distinct similarities between some of the killings, but others seem quite different, although clearly linked in some way. The theories are tested, refined, and often thrown out. I have not read anything by Daniel Blake before, but I shall definitely look out for his books in the future. An excellent read.

It isn't one of those 'couldn't put it down books' but it was different and fast moving. A little too much info on the chess set up but, hey, it's a book about a chess chamption's Mothers death, so guess it is expected. Moves at a good pace and it's not until right near the end do you get the twist. Enjoyable for all good crime readers.

The murder of no1. chess player's mother and a priest kick start a tortuous investigation into a serial killer who is stealing excised flesh, the head and one arm of his victims and leaving a tarot card as his calling card. It's obviously not a book for the squeamish but if you don't mind a bit of gruesomeness this is a good read. The plot has all the requisite twists and turns, some more obvious than others but my eyes did glaze a bit when they discussed chess (the thought processes involved are too much like hard work for me). It's action all the way so there's not much to say about characterisation as none are particularly developed but I don't feel it distracted from the read in any way.

Although I began to realise where the plot was going I was still kept in suspense throughout. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a fast moving gripping read.

I found this book while on holiday and didn't get to finish it so I downloaded it as soon as I got back home. I couldn't stop reading, from the very first page I was hooked. The only thing I didn't like was the ending, all that build up for a very abrupt ending but other than a fantastic read

The author of messiah is back with a thrilling read. The writing is sharp and never dull and the story gripping. Boris Starling aka Daniel Blake is for me the best thriller writer of today.
