Product description

About the Author

MARGARET W PRICE LIVES IN WORCESTER PARK SURREY, UK. SHE HAS SPENT MOST OF HER LIFE THERE, WITH SPELLS IN YORKSHIRE AND CORNWALL. BOTH OF WHICH SHE LOVES. SHE IS SINGLE AND LIVES WITH HER TWO BELOVED MINIATURE DACHSHUNDS, TWO SEALPOINT SIAMESE CATS AND A RESCUED MOGGY. SHE LOVES TRAVEL, GARDENING, ANIMALS AND THE ARTS, PARTICULARLY THE OPERAS AND MUSIC OF RICHARD WAGNER. SHE IS A RETIRED TEACHER, AND NOW, AFTER FORTY YEARS IN THE CLASSROOM, MAINLY AS HEAD OF MUSIC IN VARIOUS SCHOOLS, AFTER STUDYING AT THE ROYAL ACADEMY OF MUSIC IN LONDON, AND AS A PIANO TEACHER, SHE IS FREE TO INDULGE HER PASSION FOR WRITING. SHE HAS BEEN WRITING HISTORICAL NOVELS FOR YEARS, BUT NEVER HAD THE TIME IN HER BUSY TEACHING CAREER TO SEND HER WORK TO PUBLISHERS. BRITISH HISTORY, PARTICULARLY MEDIAEVAL HISTORY, HAS ALWAYS BEEN A GREAT PASSION FOR MARGARET AND SHE HAS HAD A LONG-TIME INTEREST IN RICHARD 111 AFTER LIVING IN YORKSHIRE, HIS MOST BELOVED COUNTY, AS A YOUNG WOMAN WHERE HER INTENSE INTEREST IN HIS LIFE BEGAN. THIS BOOK WAS BORN OUT OF A STRONG DESIRE TO VINDICATE HIM AND HELP CLEAR HIS BAD REPUTATION, BY SHOWING WHAT HE WAS REALLY LIKE, A BASICALLY GOOD AND WELL-MEANING MAN, WITH A STRONG WISH TO IMPROVE THE LOT OF THE BRITISH PEOPLE. MARGARET FEELS THAT ANYONE WITH AN UNCERTAIN VIEW OF RICHARD 111 BECAUSE OF THE WAY HISTORY HAS BLACKENED HIM, WILL SURELY AGREE WITH HER AFTER READING THIS BOOK THAT HE MEANT WELL AND DID A GREAT DEAL OF GOOD IN HIS SHORT REIGN.

I'm a great follower of Richard III and hence read most books I can get my hands on; fiction included. However, whilst the reader accepts dialogue and many unimportant events will be made up in a fictionalised version of the life of the 2 protagonists, I was stunned to read at the bottom of page 98 (repeated on pages 103/4) that the widow of Henry V married Owen Glendower (rather than Owen Tudor). The former died in 1415/6 whilst Henry V was still on the throne. If it were not for the repetition a few pages on I might have thought that this was an editing error as Henry Tudor's heritage certainly involves Owen Glendower (although he wasn't descended from him - rather, his ancestors fought alongside Owen Glendower against Henry IV). I shall persevere to the end but would not recommend this book to someone coming new to this last chapter in the War of the Roses.

This book is abysmal, the writing is laboured and repetitious and is almost Mills and Boon. I persevered to page 97 in the hope it would improve but gave up in utter frustration. I am no Yorkist scholar but have read widely on the subject and can honestly say that this is the worst rendition I have ever come across. Don't waste your money on this pack of utter drivel!!!!

I love books about Richard III, but this one is so hard to get into. I think it could be the first novel by this particular author, as it is not too well written, it does not flow, it does not make you feel for the characters, I have read many books and think that a more experienced author would make a better job. Sorry Ms Price.

Have just finished reading this book. It is a wonderful read. Couldn't put it down as wanted to know more about Richard the III. The style of writing actually took you into the era and I felt I was living in that time. The events that took place are very detailed.

A sad ending for Richard the III.

A very good read and worth buying. Hope to get another book on Henry Tudor and find out about his reign.
