About the Author

Hi! I'm Maggie Adams. I live near St. Louis, MO, with my high school sweetheart, Ned, and my wonderful kids, Katie (Kyle) and Ross (Valerie). My life is like a walking, talking sitcom from I Love Lucy, but I love it, although people do tend to keep their distance from me! Writing has always been my dream, with reading my favorite hobby. When I’m not writing, I can be found singing, dancing, and cooking, often all at the same time. I try to include a little bit of my life in everything I write, so when you read my books, keep your eyes wide open - I'm in there somewhere! Happy reading! I love to hear from readers and I can be contacted at www.maggieadamsbooks.com or maggieadamsbooks@gmail.com. You can also find me on Facebook at Maggie Adams-Author or Amazon at amazon.com/author/maggieadams.

Mac Coulson, head of a construction company determined to rebuild Grafton, a small town almost washed away when the mighty Mississippi flooded a valley in Illinois, is an angry man bent on revenge. Four youngsters have been caught trespassing, obviously intent on yet more vandalising of new and renovated properties. Dixie Harris, the petite, attractive new school teacher, doesn’t agree that her younger brother, Jamie, is guilty, and she is prepared to fight Mac.

Sexual tension exists between Mac and Dixie from their first meeting, stretching like elastic almost to breaking point. Ms Adams has created the archetypal macho male and a feisty heroine, and shows their relationship with no-holds-barred erotic scenes that look set to reach the ultimate outcome until one of Mac’s legendary ex-girlfriends arrives in town.

A story full of action, deceit, and danger from unexpected directions that draws in the reader as surely as Dixie is drawn to Mac, no matter how hard so fights to kill her feelings for him.

Enjoyed this 1st book in series but don't know if it interested me enough to buy next book to find out who is behind the attacks on the construction company. Plot centred around main characters explosive tempers and their attraction for each other. Introduces next book's character in a long winded sort of way that I felt didn't add to this book.

I picked this up when it was offered as a kindle freebie, and I found it mostly enjoyable, with maybe just a couple things I wish I'd had more of.

I liked that the h is 21 and the H is 35. A nice age difference for me. Not a lot is made over it, although the hero does think he might be too old for her. I also liked that he's tall and sexy and that she's short (only 5'0) and has plenty of curves. She's cute and Southern, a little spitfire. I did think that she acted a bit young for her age a couple times, but I did like her. The hero was sexy with the touch of silver at his temples. Even when he was condescending or chauvinistic, I liked him.

They had good chemistry together. He was territorial of her, wanted to have her, and she was all sweet and innocent and ready to have him, too. A couple of sex scenes and they were good and steamy. I do wish there'd been a little more time with h/H together before they said they were in love. I wanted that push-pull to last a little longer. Maybe a little more bickering, some extra verbal foreplay, and a little more conflict with the age difference would have set it off for me.

There's a misunderstanding in the story, and I really don't mind that, but it did turn into a big misunderstanding that lasted for weeks. Both of them were so stubborn! I wasn't sure who frustrated me more. There are some minor editing issues, some typos, a word left out of a sentence here and there, but overall, I didn't find it too distracting. The story ends with this couple happy and in love, but one thread is left dangling and to be continued in the next book about the H's brother Sam.

A pretty enjoyable, easy, sweet romance, and a nice beginning to this series. I'd be willing to check this author out again.

I loved this story as it had the anger of a determined and stubborn woman with outrageous stubborn male. 🙅
There's anger 😡 love 💚 and sexual tension.💏
The only little comment which has nothing to do with the storyline is that there's some small word mistakes during the book 😐

Mac Coalson wanted to help the people in his hometown who lost their homes in a flood so he rebuilds them with his construction company. But when vandals ruin many of the houses he wants to catch the culprits. When he sees some teens trespassing on one of his sites he's sure they are the ones vandalizing the houses and wants to press charges. Dixie Harris is called to the police station because her brother is one of the trespassers. She is a tiny woman with a big mouth who doesn't hesitate to tell Mac what she thinks of him.

When Mac and Dixie work together to find out who's vandalizing the houses, sparks fly between them.

I loved Dixie and her never-back-down attitude. People were constantly surprised to hear what came out of the mouth of such a small woman. I couldn't help but like Mac. He did want a relationship and tried so hard to keep his distance from Dixie but he failed.

This was an enjoyable humorous, romantic suspense with great characters. Unfortunately, it had lots of typing errors and generally the editing was not good. I even had trouble thinking of the word that was suppose to be there sometimes. I did love the cover and wanted to pick it up right away.

I received a copy of 'Whistlin' Dixie' in exchange for my honest review.

As this is Maggie's debut book, I was unsure what to expect... but after reading the blurb & looking at the cover I was excited to read more of what was inside. 'Whistlin' Dixie' is book 1 in the "Tempered Steel" series, I can't wait for more.

Straight away you got to meet both Mac & Dixie, both with stubborn, spit fire type personalities.. so within the first chapter your being pulled into a chemistry that both are fighting against. It was like a breathe of fresh air, to read about people not falling or knowing they are falling in love straight away & although generally opposites attract, these 2 are so alike it wasn't funny (personallity wise). Whilst reading Maggie's words had me laughing, crying, getting reading to hit something... although Dixie isn't known for being a spit-fire for no reason.... I was glued to the pages.
