About the Author

Carla Kovach was born in Birmingham, UK and now resides in Redditch, Worcestershire. Author of supernatural drama 'Flame' and psychological thriller 'To Let.' Carla also writes stage and screen plays, some of which have been produced in the Worcestershire area. Her latest novel, 'Whispers Beneath the Pines,' is available now. 'Whispers Beneath the Pines,' is a fast paced thriller based in Turkey. It is centred around six friends who are taking one final holiday before they all follow their own paths in life. All seems good to begin with. They have sun, sand and cocktails. However, everything takes a dark turn when they book a jeep safari and get taken into the wilderness to a desolate clearing in the pine covered mountains; an ideal place to get drunk, party and allow their hosts to take 'really good' care of them .............

If you want a pulse-pounding, page turner of a thriller to read then I fully recommend giving Whispers Beneath The Pines a try.
The story has a brutal and believable realism. From the powerful and disturbing opening, the suspense builds superbly and swiftly before the true terror of the situation is revealed and the reader is left breathless as the action escalates further.
In fact I believe that Whispers would make an excellent movie – though it would have to be a gritty ‘15’ rated thriller, not some glossy Hollywood pastiche.

I feel that the characters are well described making it easy to visualise and relate to them.
From the various flawed but likeable ‘good guys’ to the assorted unpleasantness of the antagonists, everyone is fleshed out just enough. There are no two dimensional cardboard cut-out heroes or villains here!

Ms Kovach also paints a beautiful impressionist picture of the area of Turkey in which the book is set.
It has to be something that can only come from having spent time there, observing everyday life and exploring off the beaten track. You can smell the trees, taste the dusty air and feel the warmth of the sun on your bones as you read.
Serve with a large Ouzo and a slice of Baklava for added sensation.

Despite being written by a female author do not, for one moment, think that this is some fluffy chick-lit.
This is a proper full-blooded thriller, very much like those from Alex Kava and Karin Slaughter, and one that I’m sure will appeal to blokes too. After all I really enjoyed it and I’m more of an action-adventure reader.

Finally, although this is a stand-alone novel with a good solid ending, I think that there is scope for a follow on to ‘Whispers’. I feel sure there are further stories to be told of the area and the events taking place around there.
I’d certainly like to read more. Any chance Ms Kovach?

Excellent novel, very fast paced, glad I read during a week off work as could not put it down. Very believable characters, both the villains and good guys. Definitely not for faint hearted. Not sure I will ever go on an excursion again! Would make a good movie. Will look out for more of her books.

Wow, what a terrific action-filled story! It has all the makings of a noir thriller. The story, set against sun, sea and beaches of Icmeler in Turkey, evolves around a group of friends out for one last adventure - or a wild fling - before they finally have to relent to the responsibilities of adulthood. But a stormy cloud is on the horizon. A planned outing goes wrong when they fall into the hands of a gang of seedy criminals. The author paints a gripping picture as the tension mounts. A pleasant holiday with romance as a back story turns to horror in hell. Once the story has got its claws into you it won't let go until the very end.
If you like non-stop thrills, spills and suspense, this is a book you shouldn't miss. I read it in one sitting.

An absolutely 'unputdownable' book. Mind you, I am glad I had been to Icmeler on holiday before I read it. A few typos which meant re-reading some sentences, but in spite of that, a great read.
It is the story of Eve and her friends who go to Turkey on holiday and meet some rather - ok, very - unpleasant people.
I can definitely recommend it, and if you are thinking of going to Icmeler on holiday, do go - it is a fabulous place :-D and I don't think that what happens in this book will really happen to you.

I know Carla personally, and both of us are equally enthused about the wonderful Country that is Turkey, therefore, I felt I ad to buy a copy of Whispers Beneath The Pines....if anything to take on my next Turkish holiday! Don't read it before going on a Jeep Safari, she warned me, although I had already taken a couple of Jeep Safaris on previous holidays in the area that the book describes....my intention was not to read it at all until my holiday later this year, but I dipped into it (fatal) and found myself not being able to put it down...for anyone who is familiar with Turkey and the resorts mentioned in the book it is a definite holiday read.....she definitely has a feel for all things Turkish and the story was pretty nerve racking too...only took me two days to read it.....chilling, couldn't put it down...well done Carla, must get you to sign my copy one day soon.

This book was gripping from the first page with the introduction of one of the "baddies" and his poor victims. When the 6 twenty-somethings were settling in and enjoying their holiday at the beginning of the book, it was very light and for a while had a "chick lit" feel about it. Except that it wasn't chick lit because there was always an evil undertone, we knew that lurking round the corner something very bad was going to happen. Or did we? I found myself worrying about the young people as they embarked on their day trip but hoped they would escape the loathsome perpetrators, who were in fact, victims themselves. Did the youngsters escape or did they meet a grizzly end? Read it and find out!
Scary, heart-pounding and very enjoyable. Well done Carla.
