This story is about Tessa & Lucky. Tessa is from Destiny but moved away to the city and had a great life there, good job in interior design, but it all kind of slipped away from her when she came down with a chronic illness Chrons disease. She could no longer properly do her job and bowed out before they could pity her or let her go. She went home to Destiny, completely resolved to not let herself become the "sick girl". Now she lives there close to her mom and her firends, and she works part time in Amy's bookstore while she tries to get an interior design business off the ground in Destiny.
Lucky is described by the author as the baddest bad boy she has created yet, and BOY he is! He is truly a badass character. He was a bad kid as a teen, hung out with troublemakers, was a troublemaker himself, then left home at 18 and joined an outlaw motorcycle gang, and totally dropped contact with his family and everyone from his hometown. No one has seen or heard from him since then, about 16 years I believe. He sneaks back into Destiny withough telling anyone, and lives conveniently in the house right up the hill from Tessa. He is still into mortorcycles, has tons of tattoos, long hair, he's tall and all muscles, he is mmmm badass and hot.
Why he is back in Destiny is his secret, and why he has not told anyone he's there and is reluctant to get in touch with his family... more secrets. He has a lot to hide but that does not stop the chemistry between him and Tessa from sparking off all over the place. Tessa has her illness to deal with and she works really hard at staying positive, from writing down inspirational quotes to watching the upbeat Ellen show. She is all about living life to the fullest, and not missing out on anything. She wants to do and experience things like skydiving and perhaps having a tryst with her mysterious baddie neighbor. She gets close to Lucky and starts to trust him and beleive in him. The man she is getting to know seems a lot different than his secrets and his past. Lucky really wants to trust Tessa but rightfully so, he has a lot to hide and a lot to loose.
When Lucky's past finally catches up with him, he is put to the test, forced to answer for himself if Tessa's faith in him is rightfully placed or not. She has a lot more faith in him than he seems to have in himself, so is her trust misplaced? How naive is she being about him?
This book was just amazing. I wanted to read it nonstop and not put it down, but I also did not want it to end. Books like this are so few and far between. I really did not think that anything could top One Reckless Summer, but this guy and his long hair, his Harley Deuce, and his down vest over a gray hoodie, he totally did me in. For me, I found it was worthwhile to have already read Sugar Creek, because in that book you get some insight into Mike (the brother) and the family situation, and why Mike comes off the way he does in this book. But like I said before this book is rockin all by itself. Like most books by this author there are many racy scenes to keep you excited and sweet romantic moments to make you swoon. The Whisper Falls of the title is one of the most romantic settings I have read. Lot of emotion, my heart was ripping out at one point. It is not often I finish a book and then want to immediately go back and read it again but I did just that with this one.
Whisper Falls: A Destiny Novel
The only complaint I have about that is when at the end he attributes so much of his most recent changes to Tessa. The saying that you can't change a man is true - you can't change anyone, they have to want to change as well. That she pushed him to reconnect with his family, that he wanted to change in certain ways because of her and because he wanted to feel worthy of her - sure, that's believable. But in the end, he changed because he wanted to. I'm a huge romance junkie, and I'm like most other addicts that I love those stories about the reformed bad boys, and like most women in the world, the idea of changing a man and him changing for you is very seductive ... but this is an instance when I think reality should not be avoided. The story only becomes that more powerful if the hero is the one who consciously and actively changes himself because of his feelings for the heroine.
Tessa is a good heroine, but in the shadow of Lucky's amazingness it's hard for her to compete. I liked her and thought she was well-written, but for some reason she didn't do anything for me. It's interesting, because while the book starts as Tessa's story - which I think is often the case, with romances being a little more weighted towards the heroine's POV - it definitely shifted as one read. The middle section felt pretty even and the last third really felt more like Lucky's story. I wish we could have seen more of Tommy.
NOTE RE: LUCKY (of course):
What that man does at the end as a surprise for Tessa *huge sigh* ... That whole scene is unbelievable and one of the best I've read. I want a Lucky Romo of my own!
Book 1 - One Reckless Summer, Jenny and Mick (4.5 stars)
Book 2 - Sugar Creek: A Destiny Novel, Rachel and Mike
Book 3 - WHISPER FALLS, Tessa and Lucky (4.5 stars)
Book 4 - Holly Lane, Sue Ann and Adam
I read #1 in the series, but skipped #2, which is heavily tied together in that Lucky's brother, Mike, is the hero of that book and their relationship is a big focus in this one. Nonetheless, I had no problem following anything and don't think it's necessary to read them together. #1 is fantastic and I recommend reading it; in some ways, that book has more sizzle than this one because there are definitely more sex scenes. Jenny and Mick are great and I loved how their relationship developed. I was disappointed not to see more of them in this book; they only come in towards the end. I'm hoping Amy gets her own book, since she would make a very interesting romantic heroine.
And she understood more than ever before that this big, strong man with the tattoos running up and down his arms perhaps hadn't felt loved by very many people before.
They fell into each other's arms and she basked in his warmth, his strength, the hardness of his body against hers. He ran his hands through her hair and spoke low in her ear. "I don't know the right way to say this stuff, Tessa, but ... you're the best thing that's happened to me. I've never felt like this before, I've never ... been happy like this."
Based on plot or character similarities:
* Wanting What You Get by Kathy Love (5 stars)
* Hearts In Darkness by Laura Kaye (4.5 stars)
* Negligee Behavior by Shelli Stevens (4.5 stars)
* One Reckless Summer by Toni Blake (4.5 stars)
* Getting What You Want by Kathy Love (4.5 stars)
* Lead Me On by Julie Ortolon (4 stars)
Tessa Sheridan had to return home after her big city job of an interior designer just didn't pan out. She is trying to make a go of it in her small town but jobs are hard to come by. Tessa also enjoys the serenity of her home in the woods, that is until her biker neighbor and his friends showed up. Her first meeting with her new neighborhood leaves her feeling things that she had long giving up on for her.
Lucky Romo returned to Destiny to try to be a better man. The life of a biker was wearing thin and not the example he wanted to show others. His new neighbor has his wanting to be a good man to the test. Tessa makes Lucky dream of a life he thought was well out of his reach.
Lucky and Tessa start with a sparkling flirtation that grows into a relationship full of provocative sex and a deep friendship. But there is danger from Lucky's past that threatens to crumble this new found love.
Whisper Falls is another delightful small town romance. You feel like you could walk the streets of Destiny and know all its residents. The relationship between Tessa and Lucky is intoxicating in its intensity and compelling in its deep seeded emotions. Hoping another Destiny book will be coming out soon.
When it comes to Lucky, don't judge a book by its cover because nothing is what it seems. Lucky may look like a bad biker dude, but he's really a good guy, and he tries hard to do the right thing and make amends for the wrongs he's done in the past. Tessa fights a hard battle with Crohn's disease. It takes a toll on her emotionally, as well as physically, yet she finds happiness in little things. She's an inspirational character. Whisper Falls is packed with emotion. Family reunions, romance, and Lucky's dangerous past add excitement and passion to every page. The Destiny series continues to offer sexy, heartfelt stories with the addition of Whisper Falls.

Tessa, im not sure i liked... Is it too much to ask for a heroine with some pride??? It was just awkward reading her internal dialogue and how DESPERATE she was to sleep with him. He flirts with her constantly but fears getting close to her, because of fear of his past, he almost kisses her, but doesnt. She then decides to "move on", and a few pages later this is what crosses her mind....
"God, I just want to be under him."
I understood why lucky was pushing her away and i admired that. But seeing her desperation just made me not like her. She even constantly uses the word desperate to express how she wants to be with him, that when she sees him all she thinks about is sex. Can she not just buy a vibrator??? She wants more excitement in her life because she has been ill and hasnt had sex in 4 years. And the only way her life can have meaning is to have a fling with Lucky.
I kind of wanted her to actually make Lucky work for it rather than constantly thinking that all he has to do is kiss her and shed sleep with him. Can the woman have some pride? Call me old fashioned but i dont like the girl seducing the guy in romance books. Or talking about sex every 5 seconds....
One thing i loved was that Sharon, the mother of Luckys son was actually a normal, sane woman. Rather than a evil witch, so that the hero can take her child and raise it with the heroine. No, they all shared time with the boy, and it was nice...
I felt bad for Mike and understood why he hit Lucky. As much as i liked Lucky, he abandoned the family when they were grieving for Anna, he never bothered to call to tell them he was alive, never bothered to check if they were alive. He said he didnt think they would care (even tho he had seen how destroyed they were after Anna died, seriously he didnt think his MOM would care???) It was cruel and selfish of him. And Tessa instead of worrying about Mike, who she has known longer, instead she worries about Lucky since he got punched. As if getting punched is worse than abandoning your family not caring that they lived in fear of never knowing if he was alive or dead. Lucky as much as i liked him, deserved that punch, and it was stupid of Tessa to defend him. Even later her and Rachel talk about Mike "getting over" what happened. Shouldnt they be convincing Lucky to man up and go to his brother and apologize instead of walking all over Mike for his pain???
Also, the ending where she leaves him because he says he needs to kill a man that is a risk to her, and his son, was silly. She wants to sleep with him even thinking he might have drugs or guns (he doesnt), but she dumps him when he says he might need to kill someone. I didnt find it believable that she would leave him since she was so obsessed with him...
