A friend introduced me to the Raveonettes and as soon I put the CD into the player it was love. 21 minutes of furious rock n roll later I was smitten. From the opening seconds of Attack Of The Ghost Riders this record grabs you and pulverises you into submission until you are its obediant slave, drooling like one of Futurama's brain slug victims.
The Raveonettes tell you what they are on the cover: WHIPLASH ROCK N ROLL. They are not lying. This is no PR spin, no coporate hype. This IS whiplash rock n roll. There is no other description.
This is like 21 minutes cruising through Sin City, in fact this could be an alternative dimension soundtrack to Sin City where Sin City is even cooler.
This music is electrifying, this music will open your eyes, this music will make you wish you had a car and a gun and a cool nickname. This music does what the best rock n roll should: attack your senses and consume you within its oily grasp.
You dont listen to Whip It On you plug yourself in. So plug yourself in...

WHIP IT ON, The Raveonettes (Columbia) The Raveonettes' "Whip It On" just screams "indie," but the advent of garage rock prompted Columbia Release to grab this little European release and send it down the line in advance of a full-length album.
The Danish duo features statuesque Sharin Foo and her male counterpart Sune Rose Wagner, who sing in deadpan unison. The eight songs on "Whip It On" are played in the same minor key with a maximum of three chords. And almost all of the tracks clock in at less than 3 minutes.
Packaged like a B-movie poster and sounding like The Cramps, Sonic Youth and the Jesus and Mary Chain, "Whip It On" (originally available on the label Crunchy Frog) packs the effect of sensual zombies at a netherworld go-go.
It's a grand little time, punctuated by biting blasts such as "Attack of the Ghost Riders," "Do You Believe Her" and "Cops on Our Tail."

Admittedly, I only bought this for a few of the tracks, otherwise the album does sound a bit repetetive.

By Ben Saunders VINE VOICE on 1 Mar. 2003

Danish duo, Sone Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo, the Raveonettes have already generated considerable hype from import copies of debut mini-album (8 songs in just 21 minutes) 'Whip It On', drawing comparison to everyone from Velvet Underground to Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. They play an old style rawk and roll, with a retro sound and touches of the grandness of Bauhaus and the snarl of old punks. Standout tracks 'Attack of the Ghost Riders', 'Do You Believe Her' and 'Cops On Our Tail' initially have you believing they may really deserve to be hailed as this week's Next Big Thing.
Unfortunately however, everything sounds much the same - not only are the Raveonettes unoriginal, but they have a tendency to recycle even their own guitar riffs. Ultimately the result is that 21 minutes is more than enough - the band really need to mature and diversify before launching on a first album proper, but for now they're still worth watching.
