Does anyone know which version of the Babylon 5 pilot this set includes?

I would have assumed the 1998 TNT reedit (with the Christopher Franke score) rather than the original 1993 version (with the Stewart Copeland score). Someone has recently told me that it is the original in this boxset but I suspect they are mistaken (I'm not aware the original edit ever made it to DVD).

One possible point of confusion is that both versions of The Gathering that I already own on DVD (one an American import, a double sided DVD with In The Beginning on the other side, and the second from the Movies boxset) both credit Copeland for the music on their packaging but that certainly is NOT the case in reality (presumably a contractual issue means he must be credited even though his music has been replaced).

I suspect that quite a few owners of this boxset will know off the top of their heads if this has the Copeland or Franke version (for want of a clearer way to distinguish them!)

Somehow I don't feel like a true B5 completionist without owning both versions!

G. Wagner says:
Where can I get the orginal version? I read that in the scene Kosh enters the station he is greeting the fake Sinclair with Entil'zha Valen, is this true? This would destroy the mystery for new viewers, so I guess they deleted it back then, but today it wouldn't matter anymore, we all knew. :)

As I recall, Kosh didn't speak at all in the original 1993 edit of The Gathering. In the 1998 TNT reedit I believe Kosh does say 'Valen' to Sinclair. Of course we all knew that by 1998 so it wasn't a spoiler, unless you were coming to B5 fresh (and then you probably won't remember that line by the time it becomes important in the series proper).

Hi Guys,

just received the collection and it does contain the original Pilot from 1993.

Hi
By spooky coincidence I've just watched this from my boxset. It is credited as 1993 and the music is completely different from that in Season 1; lots of guitars.
BTW, there is a really clumsy edit at the point G. Wagner mentions in the next post, so maybe it was changed.
Lastly, you have to wonder why anyone would have wanted to watch B5 after the pilot as the acting is so appalling, despite the (still) excellent SFX and the promise of the storyline. Anyways, they tightened it up with some cast and 'look' changes (particularly Delen) and it went on to be mega, only slightly eclipsed by BG.

It's the original version. The redone version is available as a double-side DVD paired with "In the Beginning" published in the USA, therefore NTSC and Region 1. Babylon 5: Gathering & In the Beginning [DVD] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC]
