Ellie has been through such a lot in such a short amount of time, she went from having such a loving family to having to watch her back and defend for herself. She had lost the two people that cared about her more than anyone within the space of 10 years, it must not have been easy on her and you would have thought that things would have changed. However, Ellie made one promise to her Gran… That when she could leave, she would go ahead and make a life for herself. Even though she was free, she couldn’t help but keep looking back over her shoulder because she constantly thought that she was being watched. But as she is about to start her journey to where her home will be for however long she chooses to stay, things seem to change whether they are for good or bad…. You’ll have to pick up this book in order to find out what happens with Ellie and to also see if she can escape from the past completely.
In this story we are introduced to 22 year old Ellie. She is trying to escape her past and the sadness and losses she has endured. Now, pretty much all alone in her life, she id off to travel to a new small town of Arbour Creek, for a fresh start and new beginnings. En route she meets Callum, with whom there is an immediate attraction and connection. But Ellie is scared. Scared of losing people so builds up her walls and isn't prepared to let her guard down.
Immediately Callum and Ellie's connection is strong. I loved the chemistry created between the 2 characters at their initial meeting, even during a relatively short space of time. As the story continues and Callum and Ellie run into each other yet again, can they begin something between them?
Callum has his own issues, and we learn a little more throughout the story about his own past with his Mum and Dad. I would have liked to see more of a connection between Callum and Ellie, really discussing their pasts, their emotions and connections that they both have with each other with regards to each of their parents. There wasn't a huge amount of 'getting to know one another' and I felt that could have added a little more emotion for me.
Callum is full of determination and has a lovely dominating side, without being over the top. Ellie is quiet, showing her weaknesses, how scared she is, whilst also trying to stay strong and determined to move forward with her life. Even though that fear of her past catching up with her is always there....
The story is written in dual PoV with chapters from both the main characters and I enjoyed how the chapters were written and flowed. The flash backs to Ellie's past, as we discovered more about what happened to her were often very moving and added a lot of sadness to her story. Overall the story flowed really well, although there were a few bits I felt were just missing some depth, it was a very enjoyable read.
I look forward to the next book in the series and will definitely be following Brooke as she continues to write us more stories!!
Ellie is leaving town, trying to leave the heartache and trauma behind......making a fresh start. Callum is heading home after a meeting with his brother....both wrapped in their own thoughts, they literally bump into each other......and the connection is instant. Be still my heart!
What follows has my emotions in a complete whirl and I couldn't turn the virtual pages quick enough. The connection these two have just melts my heart....and other things! Ellie has been through so much and so finds it difficult to trust anybody. Callum sets out to break down those walls, brick by brick. Truly, heart melted.
But not everybody is happy about them being together.......and that had me on the edge of my seat!
Cannot wait to read more by this author!
Ellie and Callum are definitely up there with my favourite book couples ever
