This one left me feeling ambivalent. I liked it - and yet I did not quite like it. A book that had me shedding tears is usually a good one. It means what I am reading touches my heart. And yes, this story did have me feeling the loss of Ethan the husband. I do not mind that he was not intended to be the main 'hero' in the story. I get it that it was to be Clare and Logan. But the author had also 'created' Ethan as Clare's first love. They had a very good marriage until death took him from her. There were scenes in the story where she and their daughter would remember Ethan each year of the anniversary of their loss.

Then came the scene that made nonsense of Clare's devotion to Ethan - on her first date with Logan, sitting there in the grounds of some grand hotel when she had a stray thought of Ethan - when she had an internal dialogue with herself. She wondered if she should have tried harder to seek a second medical opinion after Ethan's illness was diagnosed... and THEN - this was where the story lost its integrity for me - Clare reminded herself that IF she had not lost Ethan, she would not now be with Logan. Now that kind of threw me because the author had impressed upon the reader that Ethan was central to Clare's life when he was alive. Yet here she was, actually feeling glad that Ethan had to be a 'loss' in order for her to have Logan.

In another scene she also referred to the "baggage" that was a part of her past life - again a reference to her time with Ethan. I don't like the sense of a 'betrayal' in Clare's trend of thoughts. It made it difficult for me to 'root' for her and the new man in her life.

This book surprised me. Having read the synopsis I wasn't expecting a hearts and flowers read, however it wasn't as angsty as I thought it would be and amongst the seriousness of the story are many lighter moments that made it a relatively easy read. There were so many elements I loved, yet some I think needed that little bit more.

On the whole it was an excellent read. Our heroine Clare is an amazingly strong woman; she's suffered an unimaginable loss but her 4 year old daughter Maddie has kept her going. That little girl is fabulous and provides many of the moments that simply steal the moment. Logan is akin to Dr. McDreamy; sexy, thoughtful, tender and protective but with a vulnerability about him. You simply can't not fall in love with him and the way he is with Maddie is simply sigh-worthy in the best possible way.

With a twist to the storyline that I didn't see coming at all, I couldn't put it down. But this twist came towards the end of the book and if I'm honest I would have preferred more content following it. It's a book I would recommend, it was 77p well spent and I look forward to Leah's story; she is the best friend any woman would be lucky to have.

To lose the one you love and then rebuild your life and your daughter's after that loss thinking you will never love again.
In walks Dr broken who keeps everyone at a distance, he's fighting constantly with himself to maintain that distance but is drawn to the widow and her daughter wanting to protect and love them until fate steps in the way.
Beautiful, sweet and sentimental. Good characters and dialogue with a lovely storyline.
If you like a simple sweet romance this is for you.

Really enjoyable book - contains humour, sexy romance, and heart renching scenes in turn. I liked Logan and Clare and loved Maddie (Clare's young daughter who brings a special innocent joy to the story. As a medic myself, I always enjoy stories with a medical slant to them. I enjoyed the love and friendship shared by the characters. I really liked that the new love didn't belittle the old. I enjoyed it so much have just bought the sequel to find out what happens to Leah....

Oh my gosh, what a fantastic read. Never has a book been filled with such emotion; the heartbreaking moments bringing tears to your eyes and the tender moments of love, making them all worth while.

Clare has faced the ultimate tragedy already in her short lifetime, being left alone as a single mother to Maddie after her husband's untimely death.

Three years later she is finding it easier to live, but feels she's destined to live her life alone; there's no way fate would decide that she would be lucky enough to find happiness twice in her lifetime.

Being back in the hospital brings back the unwanted memories of the pure desolation she felt when Ethan lost his fight, but she knows that Maddie is going to be ok, and when the handsome Dr Matthews promises this to her, she finds herself starting to think that maybe fate has other ideas.

Logan Matthews is the playboy son of a billionaire, his reputation proceeds him, after his very public divorce was spread across every tabloid newspaper. Logan feels that he is incapable of loving anyone, he's empty inside and uses woman and alcohol to fill the void.

Then he steps into the examination room of the ER, and sees Clare with her beautiful green eyes and flaming red hair, and he finds himself starting to feel, and when little Maddie looks at him like he's her hero, he feels protective, like a father would...what was happening to him?

Clare feels guilty about moving on from Ethan; he will forever be in her heart, but she is sure that he wouldn't want her to grieve forever. She still has an unopened letter from Ethan, with the words 'When You're Ready' written on the envelope; when will she know when that is?

Two broken people, crying out in their own ways to be made whole again.
