This is a book of prayers by the famous Australian cartoonist & illustrator Michael Leunig. His cartoons are always thought-provoking, full of sincerity and hope and you can't help but feel uplifted in the simplicity of his work. I bought this book because I loved "The Curly Pyjama Letters" and I find the prayers in this book to be more like poems than prayers. You do not need to be religious to enjoy this book. I firmly believe that a good night's sleep is encouraged by nice thoughts before drifting into sleep and Leunig's poetic prayers are a perfect way to let go of the worries of the day and to remember the joy in life.

Fantastic book which is always expected from Leunig! Really enjoyable & his creativity astounds me every time. A treasure for anyone who likes other Leunig's or enjoys intriguing stories & poems.

This was a really interesting idea and I loved some of the poems. I'm not religious, so was occasionally turned-off by some of the very explicit references to a god in his traditional Christian form. However, as poems there are lots of gems here, and it's a lovely book to mull over and dip in to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simplicity, the everyday, and yet profound 26 Feb. 2006
By J. Waldron - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This is a book of prayerful musings and poetry, which encompass a range of experiences and emotions. Leunig's style is humble, quirky and succinct, sometimes with cute witticisms, sometimes with peacful consoling, sometimes with ecstatic, childlike joy or blunt pain.

Leunig allows the everyday life to speak profoundly into his spirituality (a great example is the symbol of the duck, which represents humble spirituality). He doesn't allow his prayer life to remove him from the realities of the world, and yet refuses to let the realities of the world remove him from a state of prayer, either.

This book is a great education in prayer.

:) Jude

5.0 out of 5 stars A Different View of Prayer 2 Jun. 2008
By Elizabeth Gold - Published on Amazon.com

I've actually bought more than 20 copies of this book to give to friends. Some of the friends are Christian, some Unitarian Universalist, and some just people who are curious about life. This simple book by Leuing, who is apparently a 'national treasure' in Australia, is more than it seems. Read the introduction (more than once if you're me), and you will find a new way to view the sacred within ourselves and our planet.

4.0 out of 5 stars When I Review To You 30 Jun. 2009
By Barry J. Marks - Published on Amazon.com

I received this delightful offbeat little volume as a birthday gift and liked it so much I ordered up three more for friends. Two of them loved it and the third hasn't yet let me know. It's a great way of demonstrating reverence for those of us who feel constrained by the more mainstream approaches.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely Leunig.... 8 Oct. 2012

Since I'm a Leunig fanatic, I don't know if I can give a truly objective review, but I can say pretty confidently --- having read most of his books ---- that I found this to be one of his best. The introduction alone is worth the cost of the book.
