A modern tale wrapped around an old one, wonderfully written and with so many twists and turns had me guessing ever step of the way. Reluctant to put it down and eager to pick it up again as soon as I could.
If a first novel, this lady certainly knows how to tell a story! I hope there will be more..
The book was – not what I expected. In fact, it was full of unexpectednesses. I had no idea what was going on right from the first page, and felt I was actually sure of less and less as I read on, while wanting to know more. Almost every page surprised. That’s not the usual way things go. I was riveted from the start, and read it at one sitting – definitely a “can’t wait” read. It came across as a well mixed cross between mystery, dystopia and fantasy – no mean achievement. The suspense and the mystery lasted almost to the very end – and – not to spoil it for anyone – tying all this in with one of my childhood fears was masterly. It could have been written for me – which could be why I was told to read it.
I think this is a first novel; the author’s name was not familiar. I hope there will be more. Highly recommended.
