This is an unusual setting, so informative about the location that I feel I learned so much without even realising it - the author's intelligence and vast knowledge of the subject matter is evident throughout.

The family dynamic is unusual in that there is mystery surrounding each of them and none of them know for sure what secrets the others have been keeping, this is revealed as the book progresses. The adventure is fraught with danger and intrigue.

Grace's character has a deep faith in God, but it's a personal thing, there is no preaching in the book, more that she seeks for help from that direction and struggles with having to kill to protect her loved ones.

Make sure you have plenty of time to start the book, its hard to put down!

5.0 out of 5 stars When Camels Fly 16 Nov. 2014
By lighthouse88 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
Using her research, travels and imagination, the author shares a riveting tale set in the Holy Land with danger leering constantly. When requested by either an author, publisher or via some other avenue to review a book, I check on Amazon to see what other novels have been published by the author. Soon, I will dig into book two written by this author titled, The Brother’s Keeper, which continues the story of the travels of the Madison family.
The mother, whose name is Grace, is an archeologist and her daughter Madison is a hydrologist. Mark stays at the ranch to do the chores while his wife Grace occasionally travels. Mark is a retired CIA agent and their son, Jeff, works as a newscaster for the BBC. When mother and daughter are kidnapped, Mark and Jeff travel to the Middle East attempting to locate and rescue them. But there are other parties who desire the demise of the whole family, and another set of characters who will do all within their power to protect these precious people from harm and even death.
There is so much more going on in the book than I have space here to share with you. However, suffice it to say that this story packs a whole lot of action, danger, adventure, centered on the Madison family in this author’s debut novel. The amount of intrigue, discovery, travel and more that happens in a time frame of five days is simple astounding! When the family realizes they don’t know as much about what each other does or did for a living, well that just makes discovery all the more fun!
If you are a reader and know others who love to read fiction like I have described here, I hope you will consider placing a copy under the tree for a gift! (The recipient will thank you!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Good thriller with a lot of fun parts in it too. 3 Mar. 2015
By Suzette E - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This book was a really fun read. Having visited Israel a couple years ago I could picture a lot of the areas the author described. The Madison family is an interesting bunch. This thriller is one of those that is almost believable. Following Grace Madison who is not a young woman any more is entertaining. Her thoughts on what is going on and dealing with her family is a lot of fun to read while at the same time the reader is totally engrossed in what is happening. In a few spots I got a little lost in what Maggie was talking about in hydrology but the book was still a page turner.

The interaction of the SESOM group as well as the Madison family keeps the story entertaining. The tenseness of the bad guys trying to get the good guys along with the good guys trying to outwit the bad guys will keep you turning pages.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good thriller with no foul language and no sex. Yes, it is possible and the author pulls it off nicely. I'm looking forward to more books by this author; especially if it involves the quite interesting Madison family.

4.0 out of 5 stars I got it because I love Israel, and archeology 22 Feb. 2015
By Dorothy - Published on Amazon.com

I am shocked. IL thought for sure this was written by a man primarily for men. Not so! I got it because I love Israel, and archeology, and adventure and lt is this and more. Faith, fighting, suspense, and a smattering of romance caps it all off. I could relate to it all except the authors expertise on all the weaponry. She is amazing. the characters are relatable but I was concerned that they were so "beat up", wounded, or in constant danger.I have been to Israel during one of their wars, have graduated from seminary, and retired from nursing so there was much here to relate to. All except the weapons. This lady knows her stuff. Give it a try....you may learn something you didn't know. I know I did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Accurate Geography and Geology 29 Jun. 2014
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
The description of the geography and geology of the Holy Land was accurate and detailed.
It brought back memories of my family travels by car from Haifa to Eliat and all the bibical
places we visited.
Horton has shared the knowledge she gained during her travels and participation in
archaelogical digs in Israel and Jordan as part of an entertaining high-adventure story.
3.0 out of 5 stars I liked this book a lot 30 April 2015
By Kara - Published on Amazon.com

I liked this book a lot. I love to read Christian suspense and the book's political intrigue kept my interest til the last page. I gave the book three stars because at times the varying points of view were not clear immediately upon reaching the next chapter and also some of the personal dynamics involving the main character's family and their relationships or lack thereof with each other were not easily identifiable, which on occasion led me to wonder why one character dealt harshly with another. This was made clearer as the story went on, but confusion over a character's motivation can pull a reader away from the story. I do recommend this book however. It has lots of action, suspense, intrigue and some twists. And another key ingredient for me is unpredictability. And even to the last few pages, I could not predict how the story was going to end - and that in itself makes it worth reading.
