Unbelievably moving songs. When I first heard leaving october it really hit me, like no other song, as i had recently lost a friend through leukaemia. By the end of the song i was in tears. Some of the other songs also reflected my life experiences such as whatever comes first and promises, but it was leaving october that did it for me. It can take a while for some of the songs to grab you but believe me they do eventually. This album is an interesting mixture of styles and tempos but by the end of it you will love it as much as I do! Its one of those albums that you can play over and over and not get bored. If you can buy only one album - make it this one!

HASH(0x93b62240) out of 5 stars One of the best CDs on the market 16 Aug. 2002
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
There is no need for the skip button on your CD player when listening to this disc. Every song is terriffic. Beginning with "Hand of Fate" and ending with my personal favorite "Burned in My Mind", this CD does not contain a dud. It is amazing how one band could make a CD with so many good songs when other artists cannot find even one. Most of the songs are written by band frontman, Drew Womack. His writinig talents are unbelievable, in "Leaving October" he writes of a widower's inability to let go of his deceased spouse and how the grief is most unbearable in the month of October. In the song "When It's Right" he writes of how a person should be able to tell if they are in a good relationship without asking. This is a great CD with well written songs and terriffic harmonies. It is hard to believe such talent has been ignored by radio stations accross the country. I reccommend this CD to everybody.

HASH(0x93d66f3c) out of 5 stars Addicting! 19 Nov. 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com

This is the first review I have done so far on any CD, but I really felt this one was definitely worth a couple of minutes to rave about. Before I ordered it, I read through some of the reviews listed for it and thought it sounded almost too good to be true according to some. Well, they were right. I remember someone stated they never skip through any of the songs on this one as they would on other CD's (I do the same thing). With this one, I always let it play from beginning to end. I love it & I can't wait to hear some more of what this group has to offer!

HASH(0x95eddbd0) out of 5 stars Sons of the Desert - Always ahead of their time! 3 Jan. 2003
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
If this CD was released today, it would probably tear up the charts. While I wouldn't call Sons of the Desert traditionalists, they are definately true to their roots. Drew Womack's voice is hauntingly unique, and while some of the songs may be lacking in originality of subject matter, they are all quality. No throw away songs on this CD. Their country rock sound is catchy and more appealing to country listeners than the crossover pop style predominating the radio today. I give them a well deserved five stars!!

HASH(0x93abb42c) out of 5 stars Amazingly talented group 1 Nov. 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I bought this CD several years ago when the single Whatever Comes First came out. I expected to like the one single, listen for a few weeks and forget about the CD. This CD is still in my car and is usually the first one I reach for. When I first heard it I wondered how they could put 11 outstanding songs on ONE CD ? I'd never seen that done before. There simply is NOT a bad or even so-so song on this CD. I disagree with the writer who said each song sounds alike -- they simply don't and are so far from mainstream radio country artists like LONESTAR that they CAN barely get played on country radio. Yet at the same time their songs have wonderful melodies that invite you to tap and sing along. Singer Drew Womack wrote or co-wrote most of the songs on here. He is a very talented songwriter and his voice is unmistakable, genuine and hypnotic. Members Tim, Doug, Scott are equally talented harmonizers and musicians. If you like SOME country but not a lot of whiny twang, pick this CD up. Drew has just enough genuine TEXAS drawl to sound soulful and country at the same time. This group is outstanding and deserve much more praise and recognition than they receive. See them live if you can. It's a great show and they are great to their fans.

HASH(0x94f0484c) out of 5 stars Simply spectacular! 23 May 2000
By Travis - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Its only a matter of time before you see Sons of the Desert headlining every major venue in this country. "Whatever Comes First", their first album, is truly exceptional. Their musical ability is first-rate. Drew, Tim and Doug's harmonies are truly amazing. My personal favorite is Hand of Fate, however, once you put this disc in your CD player, I promise it will be there for a long time. Also, be sure to check out their new album "Change" being released on MCA soon. It just keeps getting better. I've had the unique opportunity to work with these guys, and next to seeing them preform live, this is as good as any musical experience can get. Be sure to check it out.
