I ordered this book for my 6 yr old who was battling with huge anxiety related to going to school. The book arrived on a Saturday and we worked through it that afternoon. She absolutely loved reading it and wouldn't stop when I thought she had taken enough for one sitting! It is very interactive and was so helpful in getting her to tell me more of her worries. I think she felt the book was written with only her in mind yet she was also relieved to find that there must be others worrying in a similar way! It gave me really helpful tangible things that I could try with her when previously I had been a bit lost. A month later I cant say all her worries are gone but we are managing it in a far more positive, constructive way I think.

The impact of this book on our son's excessive worrying has been amazing. He is 8 and worries himself into a state several times a day about aliens, monsters, meteors, bacteria, repeating nightmares... He read through the book in two sittings, and what a difference it has made. While still a worry-wart he is far more in control and much readier to accept the rational explanations and coping strategies we suggest. He can keep a lid on things until we get home and is beginning to come up with his own coping systems. Very highly recommended indeed.

I desperately read ALL the reviews on this book, wondering if it would help my daughter. Things had snowballed out of control with her worries and they were fast developing into phobias. My daughter is a reactive worrier rather than a 'what if' worrier. Fire, wind, rain, lifts, burglars are just a few of them and they were starting to take over her life and affect the whole family. This book is a life line when you're waiting for the CAMH's appointment to come through and you feel at a loose end. We've had this book for 2 or 3 weeks and have seen a positive difference. We have a way to go yet, but I really feel that this book is helping to control the worries and teach us how to deal with them. We realised we were starting to help 'feed her worries' by talking things through but we now 'lock them away until worry time'. In fact, my daughter says she no longer needs her worry time! We will also be buying the sleep book by the same author. If you can relate to these reviews, then do buy this book and don't forget there is also support at school, talk to your child's teacher and a senco if need be.

An update, 18 months later my daughter is like a different child. After an 18 week CBT therapy course with CAHMS, our daughter worries about very little, and if she does, she is able to contain it and not let the worries get out of control. I wanted to give desperate parents reassurance that things can get better. We still have bed time worries, but I must highly recommend Bed Tim Meditation for Kids CD's by Christanne Kerr. Good luck!

I have never done a review in my life before, but having bought this book to help with my daughter's general anxiety problem, I felt I just had to write one. The book is EXCELLENT and explains everything in a clear and simple (and amusing) way so that children can understand about why their worries are taking control and how to then get control over their worries. My daughter is 12 and so the book was easy for her to read, but she still benefitted from having everything explained in a simple child-friendly way. The book explains what worries are, how they get started, how they make you feel, how they sometimes "grow" out of control", and how to then make the worries go away and get in control yourself. I would highly recommend this book for any child that worries a lot, either over a specific worry(or worries) or just general unspecified worries. It would be good for any school age child, because even if the child couldn't read very well, you could read it to them and the language is so 'everyday' that they would be able to understand.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Having an 11 year old boy who suffered from anxiety was taking its toll both at home and at school. The school and I had tried and failed to allay his fears with kindness, understanding, time and concern; to no avail. Whilst waiting for an appointment with the local child development clinic, I decided to search for help from a book. This book is written for the child. It uses words that they can identify with and it tackles the problems of irrational fear and anxiety immediately. It works. Quite simply, within a week I had a different child. This book is unique, it is easy to follow and gives the child and the carer a clear path to follow each day. It 'confines' the fears to a set pattern and finally removed the fears entirely. My son has asked me to cancel the appointment with the clinic as he says that he can't remember what it was that he was feeling at the time! I will take him anyway, and I will take the book with me to share its success with them too. Buy it, it works; I have given the school a copy and already there are 5 other 9 to 12 year old boys who are reaping the benefits as I write this review.
