About the Author

With 19 New York Times bestsellers and more than 230 million copies of his works in circulation, L. Ron Hubbard is among the most acclaimed and widely read authors of our time. As a leading light of American Pulp Fiction through the 1930s and '40s, he is further among the most influential authors of the modern age. Indeed, from Ray Bradbury to Stephen King, there is scarcely a master of imaginative tales who has not paid tribute to L. Ron Hubbard.

Lafayette Ronald Hubbard made big claims... his religion cures illness, makes people super intelligent, have a perfect memory. Big claims need big evidence. Well, you guessed it - there is none. This is a great scam -feed off the vunerable. If you want self help their are better books to buy ... and you wont have to get them from Scientologists.

Please youtube or google Scientology or L Ron Hubbard and make up your own mind.

This must be one of the most awful books I've ever read in years. It does nothing, says nothing and is of no use whatsoever. Cover to cover, it does nothing but promote scientology with obscure reasoning, lack of depth and has a horrible 90's PR feel to it.

Not a single "fact" in this book has the slightest ounce of double blind-tested science to it while making way over the top claims about how great scientology is.

Why pay money for PR?

This book is a glossy, sugar coated explanation of L. Ron Hubbard's nonsensical ideas. It reads like an advertisement (which it is) and would only be of value to someone seeking to validate his association with Scientology.

This is the official Scientology PR book. It is a heavyweight, glossy, illustrated book - over 700 pages and 42 chapters split into 14 parts, covering background, principles, services, effectiveness, activities, statistics, the author, and so on. It would be impressive if it were not for the fact that it is extremely selective in what it reports, and does not actually state the truth about what is Scientology. It is essentially a very long winded PR exercise, and is really a sugar-coated version of Scientology for existing 'church' members. I

The chapters on the background to, and principles of, Scientology do not mention something fundamental to any religion - the creation story. This is only revealed at a very high levels of 'attainment', known as OT VIII (Operating Thetan, Level 3). Here you are told the creation story that belies Scientology, which is missing from this book. According to Scientology, the cause of your (and everyones') problems is that the world is infested with the souls of dead space aliens, murdered 75 million years ago. According to Scientology, the alien galactic ruler Xenu was in charge of Earth and 75 other planets in this part of the galaxy at the time and cured overpopulation by paralysing the people of the other planets, flying them to Earth in DC-8 space planes, arranged them round a volcano to murder them with H bombs. These souls of murdered people were gathered up and boxed, taken to cinemas and shown films for several days. The end result was that the souls clustered together and now inhabit people in their thousands. There are handwritten notes by L Ron Hubbard as well as his audio recordings to prove this.

There are a lot of 5 star reviews. I don't doubt for a second that they are all Scientologists pushing their cult. I have had plenty of first hand and and second hand experience of this organisation, and i can tell you that they are nothing more than money leeching bigots.

Don't give your money to this litigious corporation of greed.

A lot of the reviews seem to be the same, and so are probably written by practising Scientologists trying to promote their religion (if it really is one?!?).
I agree you need to read, learn before making a decision, but it needs to be a balanced one, so reading this book is only giving you mr.hubbards view, who incidentally died a man reliant on drugs. As a side point anyone seen the financial accounts for this so called Church...you'll have a job finding them....

I'm an open minded person and am interested in learning about different religions and views held by others. I purchased this book to try and understand Scientology and what it actually means to be a scientologist (because it seems to be so secretive!). I've given it such a low rating because, as other reviewers have said, it's got no substance behind it. What shocked me the most was talking about the Scientology school in London which you must attend in order to become a scientologist. It quite clearly states that when studying scientology you are not allowed to speak about it with others or even other students at the college. You are only allowed to air your opinions or views to your tutor. Is it just me or is that brainwashing?! Needless to say, I didn't finish the whole book as I picked up pretty quickly what I thought just from the first few chapters - and I'm still none the wiser to what Scientology is!. I think the reason why they don't talk about their beliefs very much in public is because they can't be proven and have no scientific evidence to back them up (aside from the fact that some things they believe are 'far out'). Scientologist or not, I don't think anyone will benefit from this book.
