4.0 out of 5 stars If you're in the medical profession you'll love ths one. Or if you don't, re-read it and think about it... 19 Mar. 2015

Excellent for medical students and young doctors - a must-have for those new in the profession as well as for older medical folks who forget to listen to their patients...
4.0 out of 5 stars It pulled me in...gradually, :-) 5 Oct. 2014

Interesting read. I am in the nursing field but haven't had the opportunity to work in the hospital (only homecare nursing which is a different ballgame and a different kind of stress). But I definitely learned a lot from this author, based on her experiences. An understanding and non-judgmental attitude is better received from others than a cold demeanor.

4.0 out of 5 stars GREAT BOOK :) 12 Oct. 2011

I really enjoyed reading this book! I am a freshman in college and I am taking my pre-med courses so I have read a few books like this one! The author shares about her time in a rural medicine program located in Washington, Alaska, and many other desolate locations. She shares with us her struggle to help those she cares for while trying to deal with limited resources and funding. This would be a great read for anyone interested in a career in rural medicine!

4.0 out of 5 stars Starts slow, but picks up steam 26 April 2012
By SpacemanSpiff - Published on Amazon.com

The first chapter is the least interesting portion of the book, but once I got into the second chapter I didn't stop til I finished. The writing is very clear. Young is descriptive but not superfluous with her language, and overall this work offers great insight into the rural rotations offered at UWSOM.
5.0 out of 5 stars very good book 26 April 2011

it starts a little slowly but just gets better and better. It shows clearly her growth as a human and as a doctor. She grows into a person with humanity and with great care and understanding of her fellow man/woman. Would that all doctors could be this way. By the end of the book I was enthralled with this lady.
