If you ever wondered how someone from a working-class background becomes an actor in top-rated television programmes and films, this book provides an entertaining insight into how the author did it - and virtually cornered the market in portraying vicars! It is written with a lot of humour and honesty - including his alcoholism and feelings of inferiority.
Lots of famous names find themselves in there too as Jim recounts his experiences with them. He writes well and from the heart.
More entertaining than a lot of so-called "celebrity" autobiographies, I heartily recommend it.

This is the life story of a bit part actor from the north of England, & gives a brilliant insight into the life of a man from a poor background, that makes it into the TV & film business, but has to keep paying the bills by filling in with 'stand up' in WMC's to taxi driving, & other menial jobs. This is a riveting read, & one of the best autobiographies I've read in years. Like to meet you one day Jim, you seem like a top bloke

What a lovely guy and a good actor Jim Whelan is. Starring in Corrie and meeting such a star studded group of people through work. This book was a great insight into the life of an actor.
