"Flamboyant colors, zany perspectives and a neatly circular tale lead, with satisfying inevitability, to a happy outcome for all but the thieves." -"Washington"" Post ""The appealing and brightly colored collage illustrations, rhyming text, and assorted animal sounds make it a natural for individual or group readalouds."--"Booklist ""An excellent read-aloud or lap book, it's full of slapstick action, animal noises, and repeated phrases that invite participation. Donaldson's rhymed verse is both rhythmic and skillfully executed." --"Publishers Weekly," STARRED review """Low on menace and high on clever silliness, this highly readable rhyming tale will have young listeners participating in the delivery of these unexpected variations on animal sounds and examining the last scene." --"Kirkus Reviews""" "The playful rhyming text flows without stumbling and offers the opportunity to demonstrate one's finest animal sounds. A big hit at a very good price.
I initially bought this book for a birthday gift for my son's friend from Waterstones.
It was such a hit that I bought another one from Amazon - at half the price - for my son.
Both children are profoundly disabled and registered blind .
Both thoroughly enjoyed the story and the sounds that accompany it -.
I was delighted ,because it is difficult to buy gifts for disabled children without it costing an arm and a leg!
As a bonus - my 3 year old grandson loves it too.
Fortunately it appears to be a robust book which will stand up to the rigours of over-use and I have also gone on to buy similar books in the range.

My son really enjoys his Gruffalo soundbook, so for the sake of a change we bought this knowing he already enjoyed the ordinary book. It's great and is exactly what you'd expect. My husband and I both immediately agreed that it would have been five stars if only there had been a nee-nah button! Also the goose "hiss" just sounds like bad static.

This story is GREAT - it has a little rhythm to it and reads like a sing along song... the additional sounds make it a great read even at very early ages!

Great book! As soon as it was delivered I didn't know what it is was and opened it in front of my daughter by mistake and her eyes drew to it straight away! It's a lovely story, lovely pictures and great sounds! And it's a Christmas present for my little girl hopefully she's forgotten about it now I bought it when she was about 16 months and St Christmas she'll be nearly 20 months! I think it's a good book for all ages from little baby's who start to learn to press buttons and like sounds and images and toddlers and older little ones who are starting to read too so I think it's great for most young ones

We love "What the Ladybird Heard' in book form, but I bought the sounds version for holiday.
It is a brilliant way for my 2½ year old to interact with the story and kept her and her entertain during our flights and many meals out. A really great story and now she knows most of the story off by heart!

I bought this for my daughter's 1st birthday and she absolutely LOVES it!! The story is wonderful as you'd expect, but the sounds which come with it just make it even more entertaining!! I would definitely recommend this book and am already waiting for the new sound book from Julia Donaldson to come out!!!

This has been my 8-month-old's favourite book for several weeks now and he doesn't seem to be tiring of it. The pictures are intriguing and he looks forward to each push of a button for the animal sounds. It's a lovely story, written in rhyme but even younger kids will enjoy the sound effects and whispering. The cover has a textured finish so kids like to feel this as well as pushing the buttons.
