Now we have the board book too his 4 year old brother sits there with him reading to him (mostly through memory as he's not quite there yet with the reading!). It's the most lovely thing to watch. I have this book to thank for such moments. :-)
The story is great, the ladybird, despite being quiet, is the hero of the story by coming up with a plan to thwart some thieves. The pictures at the beginning and end of the book also show how the thieves were diverted by the animals making the wrong noises, and ended up in the duck pond - SPLOSH!
My 3 year old loves it, he gets to shout out all the animal noises as we go through. Of the myriad of books we have and borrow, this is probably our number one. If you want an entertaining few minutes, check out author Julia Donaldson singing the song of the story on YouTube.
Looking forward to the sequel.
