Thrilling from start to finish. Sinister portrayal of ageing actresses coming to terms with growing old. Added entertainment derives from the two actresses being sisters who have a deep and distant past neither wants to discuss with the other. As they tolerate and exploit each other's weaknesses, a chilling plot unfolds with an unexpected ending.
An edge-of-the-seat thriller playing on the fears of helplessness and lost youth. Truely gripping throughout.
Bette Davis gives a cracking performance as the once famous "Baby Jane" with Joan Crawford playing the vulnerable weaker sibling. The two are matched perfectly for such an entertaining story.

Whoa!Bette and Joan at their ultimate best. The key to the brilliance of this movie is Bette and Joan trying their best to outact each other, their real life hatred spilling over into this movie, the result- a classic macabre tale of jealousy and revenge, with superb performances from two of cinema's Golden girls. watch out for the twist in the tale!!!!! Perfect classic movie gold.

Two legendary actresses finally paired in this classic Hollywood movie! The film speaks volumes in the way Crawford and Davis approach their roles. There is a definite spark between the two on screen which is more than merely acting.

The extras on this DVD fill in the background of the two stars' career in Hollywood, which is really informative. The commentary, though informative about aspects of the film, is a tad rambling. The documentary about Crawford and Davis could have been much improved by better editing. Why cut from one talking-head to another so quickly? Why cut from one film clip to another after just a few seconds? At one point my head began to spin.

However, the film itself is well worth watching again as a true classic!

From the era when great acting and a great storyline were key, this is a classic. Good use of tension building, fabulous gritty acting, solid cinematography. You can't go wrong. Enjoy...

The film is a classic of old school melodrama, endlesly watchable. Nuff said.

I was worried when the UK bluray arrived because it doesn't say "Anniversary edition" on its cover like it does on the Amazon picture, and it doesn't list extras on the back cover.

However, this is the same set as the US bluray release (restored 1080p HD picture and audio, commentary, behind the scenes documentary, Bette Davis documentary etc). The only difference is that its in a standard keepcase instead of digibook packing.

I bought this (Aug 2006) and it's very good. So much has been written about the film itself, however the extra disc is worth it for the Crawford interview alone. Phillip Jenkinson in a rare interview with a composed Joan, questions her at length about her past film scenes.Bette's clips are honest and forthright as she chain smokes her way through various edited interviews.
Bette's singing scene on Tv with Andy Williams is a hoot! it shows Bette was gutsy enough to try anything!...

I don't think the acting in this film will ever be surpassed. They don't make them like this anymore, pity.

The two lead performances are amazing, especially Bette Davis in the role of the Norma Desmond-esque alcaholic faded child star. Genuinely frightening performance with disturbing Joker-like make up and I am sure that Jane Hudson is on the list of cinema's greatest villains.

The film isn't perfect though. As some critics have stated, it only has enough plot for half of the film. The first half is superior, while the second runs out of steam and sadly drifts off. Some parts are also slightly predictable.

Even with this, the film is indeed a horror classic featuring two excellent, engaging performances. As stated in the title, see this film if you liked "Misery" and/or "Sunset Boulevard"
