For Wharfedale, the challenge was to improve upon a design that has won more awards for sonic excellence around the world than any other speaker at its price point, whilst maintaining its predecessor's highly competitive asking price. The Diamond 9.1 has been consistently hailed for the exceptional sound quality it delivers at under £200 per pair; a major contributing factor is the 9.1's cabinet, which boasts an ambitious design previously unseen at such affordable prices. Also key are the high-quality drive units, including a mid\/bass cone made from woven Kevlar To make the most of the Wharfedale Diamond 10.1's stronger cabinet, the main drive unit chassis has been enhanced with a massive flange that is secured using six screws, thus improving its stability. A diamond pattern has also been moulded into the surround of the Kevlar cone; this is more than just cosmetic as the pattern reduces and damps standing waves in the surround, yielding a cleaner high-frequency acoustic roll-off a

Now they connected to my Marantz M-CR603 receiver.
I really enjoy sound from these monitors, music from my collection sounds like never listen before.
Quality - since i have only had them in about 3 months i cant tell. I take very good care of them and never push them to the limit and i have had no problems with them - though one of the speakers had a non-working tweeter that i replaced with a spare part that i got directly from warfedale support.
Design - they look amazing. not much to say because there are pictures of them on the web.
Conclution - amazing. they sound great, look very stylish and are made very well. And to this price... TAKE IT!
I saw a review that said they were the best speakers for $350 and so expected to pay around £350
for them. When I saw them available for little over £100 I was delighted. I should have gone and tried them,
but nowhere locally seemed to have them in so I just bought them on spec after seeing the good reviews online.
There is a convoluted story about these, which I won't bore you with, but I needed something as a stand-in for
my three times bigger and more than 10 times more expensive 'main' speakers, which do not like my new AV receiver.
I therefore wanted something as a secondary set for when using this receiver with all my new digital equipment.
I have not wanted to do a direct comparison because this would be unfair. With a good musical source they are quite lively,
but with your averagely produced music (or MP3), if I have one criticism, it sounds like the music is coming from out of the
speakers. They would be more engaging if the music were to come more into the room. This is where they are unfavourably
compared to my main speakers. They like to be turned up; not 'blasting' out but, turned up, they get more impressive.
They really come into their own when used with film soundtrack surround material. This has a different production ethos to
mere music and the different sound effects certainly seem to come out of the boxes then.
The tweeters are rated at 24 MHz. Whilst we cannot hear this, at least they should be working well within their capacity
with most forms of music. They are very good but not outstanding; not quite sweet or 'toppy' enough for me.Read more ›
They are distinctly better than the 9.1s, even sweeter and with a firmer bass. I'm really pleased that I treated myself to these for Christmas!
The only trouble is that I often play music stored on my computer when I am not specifically sitting listening, and they really show up the differences between much of that and if I were to play something on my fairly modest, but well-rated, CD player with quality interconnects... ...hhhmmmm.. ...I wonder what they would sound like with better other components... ...oh dear...
