The multi-Award-Winning Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 bookshelf speakers are a real classic in the world of bookshelf speakers. Called "one of the best budget loudspeakers ever", they make a mockery of their £180 price tag", offering a "wonderful, balanced sound". Now available for less than £100, the 9.1 represents amazing value for money. The curved cabinets, usually only found on much more expensive speakers, help eliminate vibrations and dissipate standing waves. This ensures no loss of performance, superior bass and a more focused image. The 9.1 speakers can also be bi-wired, separating the signal paths to the high and low frequencies and so offering a cleaner, more precise sound. With a strong, tight bass and huge amounts of top-end detail, the Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 bookshelf speakers;will give you hours of listening pleasure. They'll satisfy the expectations of one who seeks a far more expensive speaker. Brilliant value.

I have these wired up to a Marantz Pm5005, CD5005 and a Pro-ject Essentials 2 turntable.
I was astonished at the price and blown away by the sound. I have the speakers mounted on floor stands.
I was so impressed that I immediately purchased the SW150 to compliment them.
I'm very lucky that I live in a detached bungalow and just as lucky are my neighbours.
This trio is astounding.
Even at a low volume it's a bit bonkers. A pal came up for our usual intake and review of beer (Tennents namely) and I put on The Mountain Will Fall by DJ Shadow. Anyone who knows that tune will know there is a mental sub frequency near the intro.
As my friend was chatting to me (I strategically sat him centre stage), as the sub hit, he stopped talking and looked straight at the setup grinning from ear to ear.
He looked across at me and said "Oooh Gaz. That's a bit ********* mental is it not"?
It is earth shakingly low. I'm not saying its THX theatre rumbling but for the size and price, my goodie gracious.
When your girlfriend frowns at you when you're listening to Open Up on the Leftism LP, you know its a good thing. If its too much, I can hit Speaker A on my remote and the Sub switches off, allowing my girlfriend to eat her breakfast without having to chase her bouncing plate around the breakfast bar.
£99 for the pair. Do it!
£150 for the sub. Do it!
Never, ever allow your pals to tell you how good their Sonos is ever again.
I ordered these in a Walnut finish from the diminishing stock at Superfi and they were delivered within 1 x working day, with an excellent tracking service through DPD.
I was really impressed with the finish and quality of these speakers straight out of the box, and they sounded great on the first CD played (Shine On You Crazy Diamond (ironic?) from Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here). They are matched up with my old Denon DM5 micro system (ancient, but excellent, forerunner to the fantastic DM39, which I also have, in another room) and are a perfect match for this system.
The walnut finish is much darker than any of the photos I had seen and it is absolutely perfect for its subtle integration with the dark wood furniture in the room. The quality of finish is absolutely 1st class and exceeded my expectations.
These 'classic' Wharfedale Diamond 9.1s are an absolute bargain for just under £100 new and I wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone looking for a top class set of speakers to upgrade a system.
UPDATE - I have now invested in a pair of Atacama Duo 6 speaker stands which are a great match for the Diamonds and ensure they are at a consistent and appropriate height for listening. After a few weeks of use, these speakers really are getting better and better, and I am now hearing my existing music collection in a totally different way due to the greater detail and quality of sound from the Wharfedales.
On opening the box I found what looked like a pair of black speakers but on unpacking turned out to be dark brown [Pearl Walnut] nothing like the colour in the picture but more of a match for the out going Technics speakers. so I am happy with the colour.
At first I was a bit disappointed with the speakers as compared to the Technics they sounded "woolly", after an hour or so they became much clearer and they bring some instruments from background to more up front which my B&W speakers do on a Denon hifi that I have.
Since delivery the speakers have had 24 to 30 hours playing time and now sound very good.
My speakers are bi wired as I have a Technics 6ohm bi amp 30 watt+30 watt. which is the main reason for buying the 9.1s as I needed 6ohm bi wired speakers as at this price are few and far between
I found using a record track that I know inside out helps sound testing but not the same track on cd as the instrument playback can be different .
Good tone and clear voices, I recommend , for the price far better than I expected
Here's how they compared against:
the Dali Zensor 1's - the Zensors noticeably lacked bass when placed next to the 9.1's. They had slightly stronger mid and high tones - I believe this is the way they were designed- see "Dali Zensor 1 measurements" on Stereophile.com. The 9.1's mid and treble is less biased - my personal preference.
the Wharfedales 121's - more recent model with respect to the 9.1's. When placed next to the 9.1's they turned out to be a big disappointment - muffled, muddy sound. How did they get 5 stars in all the reviews ? Maybe the ones I listened to should not have made it past quality control.
Monitor Audio BX2's - the Monitors had less bass and comparable mid's and highs although the sound in the mid's seemed somehow suppressed and less spacious. Poor performance considering they cost 3x the price of the 9.1's.
