It may be pedantic but I always lose faith in a book when a major mistake like asserting that Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots were sisters is made.

it's not too hard to fact check is it?

4.0 out of 5 stars Westminster Abby; The History of England's Most Famous Church 18 Aug. 2014
By jim holomon - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
For those of you who have never had the opportunity to visit this magnificent church and are history buffs, this is a fascinating read as it tells the history of one of the premier attractions in the UK, a 'must see' when visiting London. To those of us who have had the privilege to visit this remarkable church, it brings back the memory of looking at the effigy of Elizabeth l, then crossing the nave and seeing the effigy of Mary, Queen of Scots, seeing the 'Coronation Chair', the tomb of Issac Newton and the of the Confessor, others about whom you have read in your history classes. In many ways, it's very much like actually meeting these people. This book not only covers 'the Collegiate Church of St. Peter,' (the actual name of the Abby church), the book gives the history of the other buildings that make up the Abby precincts and which some people actually miss when visiting like the Pyx chamber. My only problem with this book is that it is far too short to do the subject justice, hence four rather than five stars.

2.0 out of 5 stars Basic overview of the Abbey 8 Feb. 2015
By David C - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
If you are looking for basic information about the Abbey this book if for you, if you are looking for in depth information this book is not for you. From someone who has studied this church extensively throughout my adult life I have to say that this book should only be looked at as a tourist information pamphlet. If someone is completely unfamiliar with the Abbey or basic English history they will get an overview of the property and a glimpse of it's history, nothing more. I can only give it two stars because there are a few errors in the text and it looks and reads like a student paper rather than what the title states "The History of England's Most Famous Church". I might have added another star if the photographs were in color but they are not. I will add it to my collection as it is a quick read to spark interest, nothing more.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cousins not sisters. 29 Nov. 2014

I was surprised the author wrote that Mary,Queen of Scots and Elizabeth I were half sisters. Mary Tutor was Elizabeth's half sister. Elizabeth and Mary,Queen of Scots were cousins.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Primer on Westminster Abbey 14 Sept. 2014
By bibliogrammie - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This short and to the point narration of Westminster Abbey was very entertaining. It is a short history of the construction of this historical site, which if you plan to visit, would be quite helpful. It is complete with pictures and various tips on the best ways to tour the Abbey. In addition, it opens a door as to the use of the Abbey. It is informative for a basic tourist. I would call it a primer. Should you wish to visit with a stronger knowledge of Westminster, I would do additional research in order to fully understand what you would view.

I was blessed to see this beautiful building in person in 2007. Although I'm a different religion, I felt the amazing power and beauty there. I would love to visit again
