I bought this drive for a budget intel coffee lake build and the option of not having extra cables for power and data appealed to me in the case i was using to keep it looking clean and clutter free.
I this regard it was fantastic, very easy to install and looked really good in the chosen space on the motherboard.
This is where it starts going wrong. The system was built and installed Windows 10, then it was time for benchmarks. I bought the drive in bit of a hurry an didn't research it much, if at all. It was purely a price that seemed great so i went for it.
After a few benchmarks i noticed that something didn't quite add up. My system seemed a little slow? And after using various drive testing programs it seemed that the drive wasn't pushing through as much data as i thought it should.
So i looked up the specs and this drive is actually on paper a lot slower than a lot of other drives on the market. The WD green is a power saving device, and it saves power by efficient use of it circuits. Basically doing everything slower.
So if you want a m.2 drive for the above reasons then get it. But if you want the same or better performance than your older SSD's then you need to spend more money or look at a different brand.
It is a great price, but i couldn't give it 5 stars as the speed issue is a little sneaky in my opinion. Overall i am disappointed, but should have done my homework.
