On the hardware front it took only 15 minutes to whip out the old 60gb drive and get this baby installed. The usually very tight screws on the drive caddy were luckily just comfortably tight and came out a treat. Formatting took a couple of minutes.
Being ultra cautious on the software side I took the long way round and did a full backup of the system that takes around 2 hours (54gb) to a USB drive and then another 1.5 hours to reinstall... (yawn). Result was no other firmware updates required and the whole system exactly as I left it. There were some initial trophy sync issues but eventually things have matched up. (Make sure you do a trophy sync and all game saves for all users before you remove the old drive)!
So far the drive has worked faultlessly, but have had a couple of spurious USB power overload warnings early on (seemed to have gone now), even without anything being used. I suspect there may be a little lag on reading the disc that may throw it up- charging the handset and a USB mic etc hasn't diminished in any way.
All in all, a good and cheap upgrade leaving the kids with masses of space for the new games at Christmas!
