I originally bought these albums on vinyl, and the first one in particular was played a lot. It is therefore great to have them on CD. The irony is that there are now more of Shelly's original solo albums on CD than of her mother's.

The first album here, West by West, yielded the #1 country hit Jose Cuervo, an up-tempo fun song, and the top 5 country hit Flight 309 to Tennessee, a love ballad. Country radio listeners at the time therefore got to hear two completely different songs in her first two solo singles. Most songs appear to be originals, but one definite cover is Our love. That song title is not unique, but I also have a version of the identical song by Elkie Brooks. I am aware that Natalie Cole also recorded a song titled Our love, but it appears to be a different song.

The second album, Red hot, yielded three country hits, the first (Another motel memory) just making the top ten. The others (Now I lay me down to cheat, Somebody buy this cowgirl a beer) were only minor country hits. Nevertheless, this was also a fine album and makes a worthy companion to its predecessor.

I'm so pleased to see some of Shelly's original albums on CD. Is it too much to ask for some of her mother's albums to get similar treatment?

Two more welcome albums on CD. Really enjoyable songs, unlike the modern rubbish of so-called country. You can certainly tell who the singer is with Shelly and a great pity there were only 3 albums released. Dottie would have been proud.

I have been a fan of Shelly West since discovering her on a duets CD where she was paired with David Frizzel. This CD with two great albums is terrific.
