Got this album in the post on Friday, and it is gggggggggggreat. Just chillin', grammy award winin' it might be, but was too sugary for my taste. Favorite cuts on this joint? Angel, come on over, title track, let's play, all stand out, but i can just let play and enjoy the album as a while. Highly reccommended!!!!!!!!!

A friend suggested that I try this album and I'm glad I did. This album is full of very chilled-out guitar led jazz which is perfect for cruising on sunny days. There's not much on this not to like and some of the instrumental numbers are as smooth as silk. However, I get a bit p***ed of with everyone on amazon giving everything 5 stars (as this can be a bit misleading - especially if your trying new sounds for the first time) and since the album starts to sound a bit "samey" towards the end I'm giving it a very strong 4. Definitely worth a go if you like chilling out to good jazz.

This is the fifth Norman Brown CD that I have bought. I loved the rest, which is why I purchased West Coast Coolin'". But, I just don't like it. Unlike "Better days ahead" or "Celebration", West Coast Coolin' isn't a jazz-oriented, guitar album. Norman Brown seems to have attempted to make an RnB CD. Much of the excellent guitar playing the you'll find on "After the storm", for example, has been dispensed with, in favour of mediocre vocals - Norman Brown is no Will Downing or Donny Hathaway.
So, if you like smooth jazz and/or excellent guitar work, I can thoroughly recommend Norman Brown's "Celebration", "Better days ahead", "Just chillin" and "After the storm" CDs. However, this one doesn't maintain the high standards of its predecessors.

Great CD, Norman's guitar playing as always is lovely and his singing is good too. There is more singing on this than on other Norman Brown albums but artists do have to try different things. The album is produced by Paul Brown and Brian Culbertson so if you like the laid back LA sound you will enjoy. I have been playing in the car and it sounds great.
