I loved it!
You get to see the beginning of a friendship between Lucy and Xochi, and you watch it grow and flower. They are ideal partners. One slightly withdrawn, and better with animals than people. The other only marginally better with people, but very forward and in your face. You can't help but get involved in their lives to date.
The plot is continuous, and runs smoothly with something always happening. You'll need to keep page turning to see what happens next, and you certainly won't want to put it down.
There are times you want to laugh, times you want to cry, and there's more than once where you want to cheer them on. In my opinion a sign of a very good, well written book. I will certainly be looking forward to the next installment.

I didn't like it. I wanted to. I found the two leading characters unreasonably vicious and mean in the way that would make a high school bully proud. They were nothing but constant anger, twisting a normal situation into conflict by constantly talking back to people around them, whether they are gangsters, police or just random people like their clients. They were rude, conceited and unprofessional to that extent that i didn't believe any of it. The cover is amazing and the blurb SOUNDS extremely promising, but sadly the novel doesn't deliver. They were supposed to be UF heroines, but they wound up being nasty girls with an extremely limited vocabulary and a bad attitude. I love PNR i love UF, but this is definitely not up to my standards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Werewolf Whisperer destined to be a classic. 26 Oct. 2014
By S.R.E. - Published on Amazon.com

Forget what you think you know about werewolves, this changes everything. There is no full moon nonsense, anytime anywhere the person next to you could suddenly become all teeth and claws and rip your face off. Then there's the mystery surrounding Lucy and her ability to control homo lupus with a single command. I absolutely loved this book! Lucy and Xochi are believable well written characters, the descriptions of the settings draw you in, and the story flows with no slow spots nor mess ups. I can't wait for the second book to come out. Please write fast and well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really? 17 May 2017
By Michael O - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Have you ever noticed how a successful television series will leave you with a cliff hanger at season's end, so you'll have to come back and watch the first episode of the new season? I really - REALLY - wanted to give this a poor review just for that reason, but I can't. It's simply too well written. This is an action packed story with well developed characters. Personally, I think the authors should have given the reader more information before ending the book. As it stands right now, I'll have to either buy book #2 or continue to wonder what really happened. A little disclaimer at the beginning of the book would have been good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kick-ass heroine team keeping the Werewolf pandemic real 9 April 2017
By Elizabeth Watasin - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
A unique paranormal drama that unfolds a were-pandemic with an in-depth character focus on the two leads---switching storylines from the beginning of the were-virus to present day. Not dystopian, thankfully, but a realistic handling of a mysterious crisis, and with an intimate and authentic portrayal of Los Angeles and its denizens. Like a classic investigator partnership, our buddy team complement each other, one hot, one cool, and they have their personal demons to battle with. Has an episodic pacing, reminding me of a mini-series. It's a great way to handle a viral disaster needing solving, and right into the next book!

5.0 out of 5 stars I read this book because my daughter recommended it. I've read so many werewolf and vampire ... 9 Jun. 2015
By Pamela Whittaker - Published on Amazon.com

I read this book because my daughter recommended it. I've read so many werewolf and vampire books that they have become low on my reading list. I am so glad I took her advice because I loved this book. The plot is compelling, and the relationship between the two protagonists is completely believable - it reminds me of a relationship I have with a long term friend of mine. We love each other, but we frustrate each other as well. Also, the plot is not driven by over the top sexual fantasy. These woman are smart, capable, and independent. The cherry on top for me is that despite the dire situation, it's funny and for me that is essential in a good book. These women are changed by their experiences - there is character development that is in directed response to the storyline. Read this. Have a good time.
5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a great buddy story featuring women! 20 Sept. 2016
By Jo - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Finally, a great buddy story featuring women! The Werewolf Whisperer is a tale with two strong female protagonists. And get this, it is not anchored by some sort of romance! Moreover, these women are beautifully flawed, and are just doing the best they can to help loved ones and strangers alike, survive and adapt after the mysterious Kyon Virus started turning the afflicted into a various forms of werewolf-like creatures. The protagonists, Lucy and Xochitl, could be someone you know, maybe just a little bit cooler.

The Werewolf Whisperer is written in a seamless blending of past and present timelines, which was obviously very thoughtfully constructed. And, not only is the structure easy to follow, it enhances the story. I enjoyed getting glimpses into the past and finding out what brought Lucy and Xochitl to where they are, emotionally as well as physically, in the present day.

A virus unleashed on an innocent, and not so innocent, society? Yes, in this day and age it seems plausible. And that, in and of itself, is frightening and so much more compelling than a magical world with no feasible explanations for why things are happening.

The great state of California was almost like another character in the story. With its variations in topography, climate, and cultures, it was the perfect setting and lent to the novel’s many moods.

The Werewolf Whisperer is suspenseful, action packed, funny, sad, dark…it is so many things. Even if you’ve never picked up an urban fantasy novel (this was my first!), you’ll tear through this one. And, it’ll leave you ready for more!
