They say that the maker of the famous Swiss Army Knife has made this backpack, so it sounds good. My first impression was that it's much bigger than usual laptop backpacks and has many pockets both inside and outside. A mobile phone pocket, an iPod pocket etc etc - very functional, I think. The quality of the material is good, strong and stylish too. It becomes very 'fat' too, so apart from the laptop compartment, there is another large space for paper documents, books, cables etc, so it will be able to carry a lot of contents. I would probably use it when I go on a short trip to Europe at the weekend when you're allowed to carry only one hand luggage, because it's easy to carry and can easily carry most things that you'd need for a couple of days' break.
One very minor concern is that the bottom of this backpack is surprisingly thin with hardly any padded material, and there is no 'feet' at the bottom as my older laptop backpack has four small rubber 'feet' that would protect the laptop from a shock. So if you're not careful when you put it on the floor, you might damage the laptop. It's well padded around, but I wonder why they didn't do the same at the bottom part. For this small reason I give four stars for this product, otherwise it'd definitely deserve five stars as it's a very good backpack and I already like it very much! I'll definitely use it for a long time!
Another thing I have already mentioned that there are many useful pockets in this backpack, but a minor 'side effect' for me is that I often lose small things inside it, such as an iPod or a car key. I know it's definitely in the bag, but I have to look for it in every single pocket!! I think I need to be a little more vigilant when I put things in it, but obviously this is not a very serious problem.
Oh one more thing I like about this backpack: I also like the Swiss flag that is used as part of the brand name to show this is a Swiss product!)
I got this backpack for Uni as over the last few years I went through several cheaper rucksacks (karrimor, berghaus, tresspass) and found that they don't last long if I carry more than 5 books at a time in them (I think one of the karimor models only lasted 2 weeks after purchase). This swissgear model is ideal for my needs - very roomy & sturdy. After 2 months of heavy use (up to 10 books, laptop & other essentials carried around 5 days a week) it shows no visible signs of wear. The main back compartment fits my 16" widescreen laptop with ease as well as a couple of A4 notebooks, ring binder or several books. The middle compartment has enough room for another few books or notebooks, but could also be used for things like wallet, cosmetics bags or gym gear. The front compartment has loads of useful pockets - phone/mp3 player pocket inside, as well as other compartments. It has a side pocket which I use for things I need to access easily (keys, train tickets etc.), which also has a mesh pocket on top of it (perfect for a small folding umbrella). On the other side it has a mesh water holder, which holds a large (1L) water bottle securely. It is actually quite amazing how many things I can fit into it! I find it perfect for my supermarket shopping & used it once to pack for a weekend away & found it big enough for my needs (essential cosmetics, laptop & a couple of changes of clothes). I love the style of it as well, simple and clean design, goes with everything & looks unobtrusive. I also like how smooth the zips work, which I guess isn't that important for the practicality of the backpack (although I can probably get my stuff out in around 0.3 seconds faster since I got it;),but goes to show that high quality materials went into making of this product. The straps and back padding make it comfortable to carry heavy loads in. I think it will also be useful as a cabin luggage when travelling as it seems the right size for a carry-on bag. I'm still to test it on my bike, hopefully it will be secure enough while cycling as there is no waist strap for extra security, though judging by the last 2 months of use I shouldn't worry about it too much. Overall a brilliant product, one of my best purchases on amazon & a great value for money as well. I only regret I didn't invest in it sooner, as I've wasted quite a bit of money on cheaper but less durable rucksacks over the years.
Personally I like the style of this bag - I know it's all black so there's not a lot of style in terms of fashionable colours, but I like the clean lines of the stitching. However, there is more to a backpack than its style so on to more important things.
The bag has plenty of room with lots of little pockets to store things. For instance the front flap opens up to reveal slots for a phone, pens, and all sorts of bits and pieces. There are also smaller pouches on either side, one with a zip for added security although I wouldn't store anything too valuable in this as I prefer valuables to be more securely stored in the depths of a bag! It opens up to reveal plenty of room inside the main compartment as well - there is a storage area for a laptop with padding at the side but nothing underneath so the laptop will be unprotected from the under-side. There is also another sizable pouch in front of the laptop area.
The straps are thick so as to distribute the weight.
Backpacks seem to come in all sorts of styles and prices now; at the price this is a good midrange bag.
I bought this as travel a lot with my job and take my laptop with me wherever i go. Used to use a bag over the shoulder but my back started to disintergrate with age so had to look for a more ergonomic alternative.
I don't think it'll win any awards for fashion although looks ok but is really well made and strong. I've been using it for the best part of a year and really putting it through it's paces with no major signs of breaking!!!
I wanted to give a review of this product after using for 2 weeks now.
This product is absolutely brilliant, if like me, you need to take your laptop home each day and combine that with your gym gear (or work clothing when I cycle home)
There are 3 main compartments (front small one, holds keys, Smartphone and loose change etc) the second, holds papers and such like, the 3rd holds the laptop (and also has space for my gym gear, trainers, shorts and t shirt) there is also a water bottle container on the side and a zip up pocket on the opposite side.
All in all, this is better than my old bag (a north face ruck sack) for the simple quality of build as well as with the ergonomically designed space that really suits the purpose.
I would highly recommend this product to anyone. The only thing I haven't included in this review is how long it's likely to last. by the looks of the build quality, I shouldn't have any concerns about this though.
I looked long and hard for a sturdy backpack with loads of room. I've not had this bag for long (only a month) but I've been using it for a uni everyday. A lot of room in this bag - I can fit a laptop, a few lever arch files, textbooks and a lunch box in one go. Amazing bag - no signs of wear and tear as of yet. It's comfortable to wear with padded straps and back. Side pockets hold enough room for pens and such. Front pocket big enough to hold a 1 litre bottle and a lunchbox. Middle pocket - big enough to hold A4 folders, textbooks etc. Top pocket is the largest - can hold a laptop, multiple A4 lever arch files etc. Laptop can be secured with a strap internally - big enough for 15 inch laptops.
I'll admit it, I have a bit of a thing for backpacks. I'm not entirely sure how or when it started, probably in my teens and I suspect I probably saw them on TV, but I do recall going out shopping with the express intention of purchasing a new backpack for school.
Over the intervening years I have owned many backpacks, but I think this one is most likely my favourite.
What I didn't realise when ordering is that this is actually specifically designed for laptops and associated extras. I haven't actually used mine for this yet, but it's nice to have the option of a pocket to slip your laptop into.
Build quality is excellent and there is a large variety of little pockets and things for keeping all your little bits and pieces separate inside. Highly recommended!
I bought this bag as my every day bag for university. It's now 4 years later, and the bag has not only been used to carry a laptop onto campus every day, but also been my every day bag for a year spent working in industry, as well as the bag I used to transport everything from camera equipment to a compact sleeping bag on various travels around Europe and even a trip to Mexico! Besides some slight wear on the ventilated netting on the back, you'd struggle to notice the bag was more than a few weeks old. That includes at the strap attachment points, which have constantly been put under far more strain than you'd think they had been built for.
It's certainly not an attractive option, but I simply can't fault it's capacity. It's also protected the main bag area when pens have burst in the front section, and seems to keep it's content relatively dry when subjected to some rain. I've always found it to be a comfortable fit on my back (although I occasionally wish for chest straps). Overall, this bag has proven itself a fantastic investment. And it wont be retired any time soon!
Ah what can I say about my faithful backpack, it is the best at its price, the extra pouches inside the front pocket for pens and other accessories, the key ring attacher, the holes to tie up your shoes or other essentials for camping, it makes for an all round laptop backpack. I have a XPS Dell Laptop, which is relatively large. It fits into the bag perfectly. very comfortable, cushioned straps that do not hurt your shoulders inspite of excess weight. All in all, a really good backpack, holds in not just the laptop but heavy books and my squash and badminton racquets (the faces of the rackets fit in easily into the laptop pocket when you're not carrying the laptop with you, so you can use this even for leisure trips). Five stars!
