The biggest issue is the so called "Shock Absorbing Shoulder Straps", the stitches used to connect the straps to the bag are unfortunately not elastic and will break on first stretch from the scraps and then start unravelling slowly down the entire strap (images included).
I bought the first bag and returned it within 9 days thinking this was a one off. But even the replacement has done the same thing.
It is a shame as this was a very well designed and built bag when it was manufactured by SwissGear over a year ago.
Well, the replacement lasted about a month before the stitching came away around the small front pocket. I seriously cannot recommend this backpack. The thing is, Wenger is supposed to be a quality/luxury brand. And its certainly a premium priced product!
In summary, there's no way this backpack will last six months of weekly commuting. Buyer beware!
Just had to return my backpack after one weeks use. The stitching on the shoulder straps has started to unravel, and, one of the zips has failed. I'm hoping this is a one off as the design, flexibility, comfort and size is perfect for my need. My previous backpack - a budget £25 Targus - lasted over three years with weekly use.
Currently, I cannot recommend this laptop bag. Will update when I have my replacement.
Initially I was very pleased with the purchase since the dimensions suited me just fine for the use I wanted and there are many pockets on this backpack for a lot of stuff.
But after comparing I immediately noticed the main difference which is on the quality of materials. It is evident the fabric and overall materials on the Wenger version of the backpack are way cheaper and oh man, it shows. The fabric especially on the inside is lighter and more glossy, more like the petroleum plastic you will find on 5-10 euro backpacks.
After normal to heavy use (stuffing lots of clothes and a laptop on trips) tears in my backpack started showing after the first year, and at some point made the backpack unusable. Some sawing was necessary in order to keep the backpack in working condition.
Overall I think it is an okay backpack but I would not buy this brand again.
UPDATE: I have contacted swissgear, and they were happy to send a replacement. However i had purchase a replacement bag while i waited for the new one to arrive.
the stiching in the new bag seems stronger on the handles, but quality still doesnt seem as good as my previous swissgear bag, as there is bits of stiching not cut properly which could get ripped. I will update in a few months to see if the replacement is what one would expect from a swissgear bag.
Therefore i will raise my review from 1 to 3 stars as their customer service was impecable.
Purchase 2nd Feb and now straps have failed as others have reported not impressed as the rest of the bag is great. Waiting for replacement and fingers crossed. (The one I bought in 2007 is still going strong!)
I bought this recently and the quality of the product is excellent. I didn't realise I had actually bought the same rucksack about seven years previously and still going strong. There are some minor differences but this is very well put together.
3months later ....the side pocket came apart from the seam....and also the top hook broke at the seam ...as well as the actual logo that was sawed on the harnes ...starting to come apart ... i think in a few months it would be only good for the recycle bin .
not worth the £58.49 plus shipping ...
