What makes this book a good read is the taut sexual tension between those two, so taut you can cut it with a knife. Sebastian is a complex man - hardened by years of poverty, ruthless in getting what he wants, he wants Mary. Mary spent years encasing her heart in ice, becoming an utterly practical but ultimately frigid woman. These two are totally wrong yet so right for each other. I admit I had to wince at some of Sebastian's antics, but then again, that was Sebastian. Ms Dodd couldn't write him - and I wouldn't want him to be - any different.
Clever dialogue, humour, and scorching sensuality. A volatile mix too good to be missed by any romance reader.
Fairchild of the Sussex Fairchilds, killed a man. The only witness to
the incident is Sebastian Durant, Viscount Whitfield, who hates
the Fairchilds. Now, a decade later, Sebastian has found Mary posing as
a housekeeper to his godmother, Lady Valerie. He blackmails her into
helping him retrieve a diary that the Fairchilds apparently possess.
Though he is not sure what type of welcome she will receive from her
estranged family, she agrees to pose as his fiancee in exchange for his
..... The pair travels together, chaperoned by Lady Valerie, to Mary's
ancestral home, a place she was thrown out of ten years ago by her now
deceased grandfather. All the Fairchilds are filled with dark secrets,
going so far as to blackmail Mary, who realizes by now that she has
fallen in love with her "fiancee." However, chances of his
reciprocating her feelings are slim since he thinks all Fairchilds are
thieves and crooks and her current relatives do not do anything to
change his mind.
...... A WELL PLEASURED LADY is an extremely pleasurable late eighteenth
century Scottish romance that should thrill fans of the historical
romance sub-genre. The lead characters make a superb pair even if they
prefer it to be otherwise. The story line is crisp, loaded with
suspense, and brings historical Scotland to life. Christina Dodd is one
of the most dependable writers of historical romance and her current
tale is a grand slam home run.

I've always liked Christina Dodd, but this one is the best. What a man! And the heroine the only one who could tame him. Great stuff. The old lady is funny, too.Published on 16 April 1999
I bought this book because I saw the review. But it is so-o-o disappointing. This is my first C.Dodd's book and last. Weak plot and story loosely-knittedPublished on 30 Oct. 1998
