Review

Acclaim for Herbal Medicine, Second Edition:A seminal work in the annals of modern phytotherapy one of the chief standards against which all future publications will be measured. --from the foreword by Mark Blumenthal, Founder and executive Director, American Botanical Council, Editor, HerbalGramStill one of the best manual on clinical Western herbal medicine, if not the best available. --Christopher Hobbs, L.Ac., fourth-generation clinical herbalistThe definitive text of herbal medicine from the conventional medical approach. --Michael Tierra, L.Ac., O.M.D., author of Way of HerbsA scientific and authoritative work based on the authors' decades of real-life clinical experience. The practical formulas and well-referenced data sets this work at a quantum level beyond any other herb books on the market. I plan to use this excellent text in the training of my medical students. --Dr. Jill E. Stansbury, N.D., Chair Botanical Medicine Department, National College of Naturopathic Medicine --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Format: Paperback
there are countless books with recycled info about herbs often in useless formulaic layouts which just list a range of conditions that the plant treats without getting into the heart of what that herb is really about. There are one or two modern classics (by david hoffmann and simon Mills for eg) and lots of okayish over produced herbals with lavish cookery book type images. and then there is Weiss!!! majestic and magnificent. Weiss was a true master in his field Way too scientific for my taste, but who cares - he gives info that you won't get anywhere else and has angles on herbal usage that come from european traditions and are therefore revelatory for those of us brought up on the anglo-american tradition. Not really for the layman unless you are a very keen amateur but absolutely 100% indespensable for any student or practitioner. If i only had one book on herbal medicine it wouldn't be this one because ultimately christopher Hedley has a better feel for how to heal with plants but Weiss completely owns the scientific corner of herbalism. Do not consider anything other than the 'classic edition'.
