The Rims are made my Weinmann I don't know how they are regarded for quality but my racer originally came with Weinmann brakes. I wouldn't have thought a company would last that long making poor quality products. This is what attracted me to them in the first place.
The Hubs are by 'Quando', and to be honest I'm not convinced on the quality. The thread for the freewheel didn't look particularly precise (although the freewheel did screw on fine!) and to me they scream cheap. But what do you expect for £60!
A couple of positive surprises now, these wheels came with quick release skewers, which I was not expecting at this price I thought I would have to provide my own. Also the packaging was excellent, I would have expected to cut costs it may have been poor but was not.
Both wheels arrived (although a day late, City Links fault) true and with the bearings perfectly adjusted ready to bolt straight on. I have used these twice and given them a bit of a hard time to try to make sure they won't fail prematurely when I'm not expecting it. I'm 18st and pretty powerful, I have ridden these flat out and slammed on the brakes from that speed (30ish mph) I have bumped up and down kerbs and generally sort out a bumpier path with no noticeable ill effects to these wheels.
I'm chuffed to bits with them hopefully they will last well. They made a massive improvement over my old wheels. Only 4 stars because of the lateness of city sprint and that I'm not completely convinced on the hubs.
Other than descending at speed with the brakes hard on I cannot understand why the wheel failed in such spectacular style, so if you intend doing some serious riding be warned it could be your last!
Good news Bike Shop will give full refund and next time provide a stronger wheel.
Used these for my old Raleigh road bike after yet another spoke snapped
Just needed to swap the axle nuts to keep the axle width the same, then clipped in
Cheaper than the price of the spokes to repair old wheels
