A fabulous new approach to help bridge the gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it. The idea of treating yourself compassionately and accepting your negative feelings and emotions but not allow yourself to be pushed around by them has been life-changing.
I love the choice point model to make me stop and think about making healthy choices.

What a great resource to keep coming back to for a dose of self motivation.

Exceptional book. I refer to it everyday as a reference and to help review all of the exercises and information presented. This has transformed my health in ways I cannot express. I am so thankful for such a practical, well-written, well-sequenced text!

HASH(0x978ced38) out of 5 stars I have struggled with my weight since I was 8 ... 18 Dec. 2014
By fay - Published on
Format: Paperback
I have struggled with my weight since I was 8...I am now 44. I have embarked on hundreds of diets and weight loss programmes with NONE of them being sustainable and with them all taking up enormous amounts of my life and attention. While I have been dieting over the years I have missed out on living. I am ecstatic to find a programme which takes the focus off what I put in my mouth and moves the focus on to living well, meaningfully and focusing on my health not my weight. I am putting the skills the Weight Escape teaches into my daily life and I am exercising consistently, eating well and living my life in a meaningful healthy way. For the first time since I was a teenager I am not constantly thinking about what I can and cant eat but focusing on what I care about. This has enabled me to lose 24 kilos....which is now about my health, playing with my kids, having energy and vitality, being curious, caring and loving towards others......not just about losing weight. Thank you so much authors for giving me an approach that I can live the rest of my life, that gives me freedom and most importantly my life back.

I have lost 13 pounds in 8 weeks without "dieting" but by becoming more aware of my choices this book is different, funny and engaging to read. I've already told all my friends to get this book I am using the tools and exercises in other areas of my life as well.

HASH(0x97c22fd8) out of 5 stars I LOVED this book 18 Dec. 2014
By Claire M Kerslake - Published on
Format: Paperback
I LOVED this book! The Weight Escape is based on ACT or Acceptance & Commitment Therapy and as the introduction states, is not a diet book but is a book about bridging the psychological gap between what we want to do and what we actually do. It is a very practical read and is designed to give the reader the skills to lose weight in a way that matches their values. The exercises throughout the book ensure that the reader is fully involved and there is a 7 week weight escape bootcamp at the end of the book designed so that the reader can practice all of the skills taught in the book. I'll be recommending The Weight Escape for all of my clients!

HASH(0x9735f42c) out of 5 stars Great book on using acceptance and value-driven techniques for weight loss 18 Dec. 2014
By Deborah - Published on
Format: Paperback
I am a clinical psychologist in the United States and I have used this book with my clients who struggle with weight loss. The book offers a revolutionary approach to weight loss--where clients are taught to give up the war with themselves and with dieting and instead to address more fundamental struggles around uncomfortable emotions and seemingly intolerable thoughts which are often the true culprits in the weight loss battle. The focus is on abandoning what doesn't work and doing what will work in the name of being more true to oneself. The book is a great primer on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy but also incorporates many of the tried and true cognitive behavioral weight loss strategies--so it should still feel accessible to those who want something more conventional but who are also looking for something new. My clients have reported that the book very much resonates for them in a way that more traditional weight loss approaches (including national commercial programs) do not. Highly recommended!
