I should have been alerted by the very reasonable cost of this hardback to it's possible limitations. It aims to cover all the ceremonies of Holy Week giving historical background , cultural and national variations and "spiritual" reading. What it infact does is give very patchy and badly written overviews of the historical evolution of some ceremonies. Vey uneven and irritatingly dull tiny pieces on national variations, and HUGE chunks of scripture and liturgy just plonked in. Anyone would be far better with any Adrian Fortescue book on the subject!
