The Week Never Starts Round Here will never get pulses racing with its lo-fi recording, understated guitar and softly 'spoken' vocals, but this is where its charm lies. Aidan Moffat has a way with words that very few other songwriters posses and this is well illustrated on songs such as 'Driving', 'Gourmet' and fan favourite 'The First Big Weekend' a brilliant paeon to, essentially, getting f-ed up at the end of a sh-tty week.
Arab Strap are a brilliant band, but I'm sure they'd be happy to concede that they're not an immediate one. The Week Never Starts Round Here is at times a bleak and difficult listen but give it time and it will yield up special moments and witty remarks that will have you rifling though the rest of their back catalogue.
