I did expect it to be crammed with jasper and creamware but it remained true to its title.Sword hilt for Beau Brummel anyone? obviously the classical gems from the time of Josiah are well represented but the artists of other periods are mentioned. Before owning this book I had no idea that Dr Christopher Dresser had done designs for the factory and one is illustrated here. Daisy Makeig Jones has a few of her finer specimens represented plus a checklist of pattern numbers. The war record of Eric Ravillious and Keith Murray (military cross and croix de guerre} provide a fascinating glimpse into their lives but I prefer pottery to biography; and there is no mention that Keith Murray originals were reissued by Wedgwood and the difference in their marks is the only criteria between a price and a third of that price.
I would have liked slightly more detail in the captions to the plates, as in how big the piece is because scale is sometimes difficult to judge, and I also wold have liked to have known which mark was used.
These are small niggling points compared with the overall usefulness of the book and I would recommend it to any lover of Wedgwood.
