About the Author

Sarah Eakin was born in Surrey and lived most of her life in England, growing up with three older brothers and a lot of horses. With a degree from London University in Russian and Soviet Studies – that shows her age – somewhat by accident she became Polo Correspondent to The Independent. She was a Sports reporter on the Southern Evening Echo for two years covering a multitude of sports that she knew very little about – to start with. She became Polo Correspondent to The Daily Telegraph, Chief Polo Correspondent to the Horse and Hound and was a regular contributor to US publications Sidelines and Polo Magazine. Appointed Editor in Chief to a new publication, International Polo Review, she landed in Florida for the winter to work for Sidelines. Having sworn off ever marrying a professional polo player, she did just that six months after meeting Gary Eakin at the Florida barn of close friend and former England Polo Captain Julian Hipwood. Married between polo games in Saratoga Springs, NY with Julian as best man, Sarah toured the US with Gary as he pursued his professional polo career. She continued to write about polo for a variety of publications worldwide as well as grooming occasionally for her husband. After long stints in Florida, New Mexico, Texas, Alabama, California, Calgary in Canada and Michigan they finally settled in Aiken, South Carolina where their son James was born in 2001. Aiken proved to be a pivotal place in Sarah’s writing career after she met hair stylist Lee Brittain. They hit it off as friends at her first appointment and have been extremely close ever since. Lee became the muse for The Sterling Chronicles, arguably Sarah’s first work of fiction (sports writing not withstanding). Sarah now lives near Edinburgh, Scotland but regularly visits the US – her adopted country – where many of her friends, not least Lee and her ex-husband Gary, reside.
