I had initially decided to not use a cover but I found that rain water managed to get inside the barbecue via the vents in the lid and, as I was storing it under a bat hibernation box, needed something for hygiene reasons as well.
I don't know what the more expensive cover offers as additional protection, but this one seems more than up to the job. The only reason for a four star rating is that nothing is provided to tie the cover onto the barbeque, so it can be prone to lifting in strong winds - it hasn't been totally removed (yet) but I decided to punch two holes in the base so that I could attach the cover to one of the legs `just in case'.
I repaired it with some tape and put it back on, the BBQ then went out last week and again wind caught it and this time despite me using a bunge to keep it in place it ripped beyond repair.
This is an awful design and should have had straps built in to stop it moving. Flimsy and woeful do not begin to describe it. If I could have given it ZERO STARS I would have.
WRONG. Yes it does cover the BBQ very well but unfortunately it is not very strong and therefore has been ripped on a number of occasions by just placing it on and off the BBQ and by the wind.
I am surprised at Weber as there products are usually fantastic, but with this cover and there expensive drip trays they seem to be taking advantage of there brand name rather than enhancing there reputation for producing outstanding products and therefore improving consumer confidence.
Feisty wind is a problem, though, and can easily remove the cover. But I didn't feel the need to modify it; a decent-sized terracotta flowerpot inverted over the handle will keep the cover in place and doesn't look too silly.

Brilliant BBQ, rubbish cover. Made of perishable material, found the handle sticking out of a rip in the top after a summer breezy night. Read morePublished 4 months ago by Swmum12
